Ok, my brother and sister have been really bugging me to go to Vista since they like it (according to them). Anyways getting to the point, They like it, and I like performance so I got Vista Ultimate x86 and used vLite to rip stuff from it to make it work better such as the languages(Japanese and Chinese), the Help function and others like the function that allows you to 'speak' to your computer (in other words typing for lazy people) and that saved more than 1gb off the installer.

I'm running on a Intel C2D 1.6Ghz processor, 1gb of RAM, a 512mb Video card(ASUS something), and Windows XP SP2, my PC has done well so far.
BUT I want to know if it will perform well under Vista Ultimate since alot of people say its a RAM whore and stuff.

Upgrade and satisfy my siblings (and maybe myself with DX10), or stay in XP and keep things the way they are?

I WANT OPINIONS! please post people. . . . and VOTE!
stay with xp only get vista when its less buggy

or install vista on a second hard drive   or partition and dual boot
hmmm yeah maybe ill do that. dualboot. . . .but first I need to buy a 2nd HDD.
you can actually split your first hd into dual partition so it reads as 2 then dual boot from one hd
u need to double ur ram. and even if u do vista will still suck suck suck.
ok thanks for this guys but even if I dual boot I still will buy a new HDD since mine now is only 80GB. . . .and that's shared with 3 people so wee are all backing everything up on DVD's

haha, that's the same as me, i have a 60GB HD and its all used by me :P and i back up everything to DVDs because of the lack of space and because i cbf buying a Portable HD because i would rather use the money for a new PC :D
You really need to double your RAM if you want Vista, But SP1 'should' hit around April next year, I'd say wait till then.
Have they said why they must have Vista?  Is it Aero Glass?  If so, just strip out Aero with vLite :P

Performance wise, yes, I'd recommend 2GB at least for Vista.  Vista x64 takes up about 50% more RAM than Vista x86, but 2GB should be fine with it (though you may want to consider more).

I'd prefer x64 operating systems now, provided you have all the drivers.  Most 32 bit programs will run without issue.  And those that do, usually have x64 ports.

The advantage of x64?  The OS runs much faster, and you can also run x64 programs.

Though I'd recommend nLite'd XP x64 the most - uses much less RAM, and is MUCH more stable than XP x86 and Vista x86/x64.
