Here in america or at least everywhere I've lived it would just be called Math (no S) but even yesterday on an anime I was watching they kept referring to it as "maths"

there's no concrete reason. American English is a bastardisation of English, for want of a better word. Their language is the same, but some words have been changed for what appears to be no reason.
I hope MyPlaza gets fixed sometime.. I don't know why, but I found it to be a lot of fun.
