I wish for the second option (serial only). It would suck if they force an online membership thing like half-life 2 does, not that half-life 2 is not piratable.
Probably will include a strong verification algorithm or something though, to try to stop people from playing online with cracked/keygened versions.
mmzz.. but HL2 goes by serials too doesn't it?? i got a steam acc with HL2 and it never needs me to pay membership
yeah, it does, but unlike normal games, the serial check is done on their servers, not ur comp.
So they can log what serials get released to the public, to flush out serials that are generated by keygens, that were never released.
Also, since it's done online, they can also block out attempts of trying to use a serial when someone else has already done so.
So it'll be very hard to keygen a good serial. The system is very similar to that of some MMORPGs.
mmzz weird... but i thought HL2 Generates by using a Steam acc... i must have steam logged on and stuff to get my game running.... and its impossible to use keygen on a Steam acc......
I actually don't know too well how half-life 2 exactly works, as i don't have the game, but i imagine it must be something like how MMORPGs work, where u input a serial to activate the (steam) account/game. But i may be wrong.
Anyways, a keygen is impossible for online stuff because keygens are made by reverse engineering the cd key checking algorith in the game installer/exe. And since that check is done online, u cannot access the algorithm, thus cannot reverse engineer it.
Half-life 2's exe has been cracked though to completely remove the need to use steam, thus u can play it at home without the net, but u can't get updates and stuff.
u mean its non steam.. missions only...
The Valve products all need a steam acc and activated serials to play online.....
Yeah, missions, and LAN i think. But without steam u can't get updates and stuff.
LOL, Piracy cannot be stopped.
download>paying for game,
keygen>serial check,
crack>protection mechanisms,
virtual drive>genuine cd check,
special burning methods>anti replication technologies,
private (hacked) servers>online fee charging,
Oooooooooooooooooooooo! It's about time, damnitall.
I'm still waiting on Spore!
