[Blog]ITUNES, THOU HAST BEEN CONQUERED
O GREAT APPLE DEMON THOU HAST BEEN SLAIN!!!

I finally got rid of all the DRM on my music I bought from iTunes. It's not that I don't like buying stuff from iTunes, it's that I'm sick of not being able to use it with anything but Apple products. I love the DRM-free iTunes Plus and will buy stuff from that section.

Also, this is another way for me to separate myself from my parents. Y'see, I first started buying iTunes stuff about 3 years ago, and I used my mom's account to do so, meaning that it was all protected to her account. Now, I don't need to have my computer authorized to her account, and I can start my own account and get my own stuff under my name without cluttering up my music library with multiple accounts. Yay. Also, I'm getting a Macbook Pro this summer, and transferring my stuff will be really headache-free now. And I'm also never updating my iTunes above version 7.4, as I can buy all the latest stuff while still being able to unlock it. Yay.

Anyhoo, I'm planning on buying some of those rhythm games where you can use your own music now, like Audiosurf and Beats. Moar yay.

(Also, I don't want any flak about how I shouldn't use iTunes or whatever, because I personally like it and it suits my purposes just fine, and I don't want to have to deal with the hassle of reorganizing all my music for a new program)

Actually, I'm fine paying for music, as it keeps the industry alive. I'm not cool with DRM though.

Amazingly, they still do. You see, my whole philosophy is that I'll buy it if it's worth it. $6-10 for 12-20 songs? yeah, that's worth it. $50 for a portable game? No. $5-10 for a download game? Depends on the game.

If you actually look at it, games aren't that bad in pricing, compared to some other media.

Lets assume that game for $50 you are going to spend 50 hours on. So that's $1/hr. $1/hr is not that much. If you are really into the game, and spend lets say 1000 hours on it, then it's 5c per hour, or very cheap.

Not lets take a movie DVD. That's like $15 (My guess. Don't know how much they are in the US) for 100 minutes. Which is $9/hr. Ofcourse, movies have a higher enjoyment ratio per time than games (probably) so you might take that into account, but still, games are a lot better under this analysis, unless you enjoy your movie 12x more than your game (in which case you shouldn't be playing that game, cause it's poo poo).

And your music. $10 for 20 tacks. Each track lets assume is 5 minutes long. That's $10 for 100 minutes, or $6/hr. Only thing is that it's more worth it than the movies cause you are going to listen to the tracks over and over, thus gaining a lot more hours than the single pass 100 minutes, while the movie you're probably going to most likely watch once. At most 3 times.

So between games, movies and music, movies = most ripoff. But that's still not too bad compared to lots of other stuff I can name.

But it really depend on the person, and how much utility you derive out of each activity. Some people thinks it's it's worth it to pay $20,000 to scalpers to go to a Hannah Montana (whatever it's spelled) concert (heard on TV). I think these people are complete retards, who deserve to die, but wee want to keep alive only because they feed us money. But hey, somehow, they think it's worth it.

I see your logic, but honestly, aside from games like N+ and God of War and Crisis Core, what games could command 50+ hours?

And as for the WMP thing, I was joking. Didn't you see where I said that a bit further down the post?
