3.80 M33 Topmenu problems
Yes, it's been a long time since I posted on EP. I haven't abandonned you guys, I've been pretty busy with College and stuff.

Anyways, I decided to update my custom theme to 3.80 today, but I've run into problems. I've been able to fix them for the most part, until I ran into this. In order to preserve the quality of my icons yet keep transparency, I decided to use PNG format, as Photoshop 5.5 doesn't let me save bmps above 24-bit, and 8- and 4-bit BMPs were not cooperating as far as transparency goes in RCO Editor. PNG worked, but there's this really really weird problem now.

If I move around enough in the XMB, the icons I didn't mess with will start to either disappear or look like corrupted image data. I've been unable to reproduce this effect using the stock "open" topmenu_icon.rco file.

I don't know why 8- and 4-bit BMPs aren't working for me now. They did in the past. And these icons are just greyscale anyway, it doesn't NEED to be 32-bit.

I'm also aware that I could just use the Sony version of custom icons at this point, but that doesn't have quite as much of a "leet" factor.

Latest version RCO Editor 1.15C

Try making your images smaller.

Can you post a screenshot of some sort?
Use this app

Have you change the compression option?

Everyone would agree with you on the Sony "custom" icons.

That's what caused this in the first place. I could just extract the gims from the earlier versions of my theme, but I want to perfect it: the old icon images I used were 64x64 pixels instead of 61x61. The shadows were even worse.

I hadn't thought of that. I'll try it.

If that doesn't fix it, I'll post some screens of the weirdness o_O

EDIT: didn't change anything, just made the file bigger.

No. Because I prefer everything in photoshop's menus to be located EXACTLY where I expect them to be. :P

And in the screenshot I added to my post above, I haven't changed the shadows behind the icons yet.

EDIT: 8-bit PNGs seems to have fixed it. While RCO Editor accepts 24-bit PNGs gladly, the firmware doesn't, apparently.

i think if u make icons 64x48 it will be fine or else u will have to lower the resolution of the 0-12.bmp cause sony changed some stuff causing memory issues n that's y the icons get messed up

Huh? I never said I did anything to 0-12.bmp. I only tried that ONCE, months ago, and failed. Never tried it again. The background you see is a wallpaper. That's why there's no wave.

Thanks for trying to help, though. It's the thought that counts. :D

At this point I have all my hacks redone for 3.80, except for the sounds in htmlviewer.res. I've forgotten how to decompress that file, and even if I did, Auris probably won't work on the 3.80 file.

RE: 3.80 M33 Topmenu problems
no i was suggesting that u lower the 0-12.bmp resolution if u want to use 64x64 icons cause sony changed something n so icons should be 64x48 or else some icons will disappear or messup

that y ur icons messes up because u used 24 bit 64x64 icons n 3.80 would use 64x48 icons
so if u want to keep the 24bit icons at 64x64 u should reduce the resolution of the 0-12.bmp to save the xmb memory

You do realize that the RCO editor converts any and all images to 32bit BMPs including PNGs

Maybe it has something to do with the first color option?
