well the cheaper 2ds is made for the kids 7 yrs old below who was been eXx1l3d for playing 3d games (its indicated in the 3ds game labels), and was like to play the new Pokemon X and Y (which coincidently october is the release date of Pokemon x and y) so yeah its an alternative, but still 3ds is still out there, i may buy one for my kid though since i don't want my 3ds to be shattered to pieces hehehe

Spoiler for don't look, might destruct your mind:

So I bought one of these last week so I could play pokemon, I have to say its pretty sturdy and not as big as I expected. Its a little too big to fit in one pair of pants I own but for the most part slides right in my jeans pocket. I've dropped it like 10 times too its pretty indestructible seeming. Battery life is better than my friend's 3ds-es as well.

Good to know. I have been considering getting one due to Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire remakes being announced. Also they are hella cheap, I have seen them for $130 NZD which is great.

Yeah I'd definitely recommend. I bet you can find a used one for much much cheaper on craigslist. I got mine for $100 bundled with pokemon X, zelda: a link between worlds, ocarina of time, and a flash cart so I can pirate all the original ds games. The 3d felt like a gimmick to me (and won't work with my lazy eye anyway) and I certainly don't want to spend that much on what is solely a pokemon machine.

It was the ruby/sapphire remakes that pushed me over the edge, too.

I love the mint 2DS colors. If only Nintendo released that for the XL... I'd buy a new 3DS.
