Presumably inspired by the fancy eyewear from Dragonball, Google's Project Glass (wiki) has been getting a lot of attention amongst nerds for the past many months (and a few years?).

As you might guess, these are glasses that include similar functionality to an Android smartphone, presumably interactable via voice commands (sorry, no worthy brain scanning technology exists yet), includes wireless capabilities, a camera and an obvious place for a display. The current aim is to have a consumer version by the end of this year, with prototypes already in the hands of some third parties.

Being Android, one of the more exciting prospects are what apps could be designed for it. Though currently, it is expected to have at least the following abilities:

Weather and time display
Take pictures/video
Integration with Google Maps, Search, Hangout, Translate and Now (Google's version of Siri?)

On the other hand, if you thought Twitter caused way too many people to be texting on their phones, wait til VideoTweet gets popular... And privacy concerns anyone?

Whilst Google is aiming for computing in glasses, rumours have it that Apple is working on a "smart watch".

It's cool, but voice commands are just too much most of the time.

If I wanted to switch to time, I'd have to say SHOW ME THE TIME or something like that. It's a bit obnoxious, if not embarrassing.

Wee have voice commands and what not already, but there's a reason as to why people don't use it.

Until then, I'll enjoy just switching to look at my watch in silence.

 I'm not big on social networks and LOOK AT ME sort of things (yes I blog but I doubt I get anyone more than a few regulars reading my crazy rants.)

I'm not a fan of voice control either. Perhaps if they had the option to manage it from your phone...

Yes, though you'll probably never see anything >9000, or even >90 for that matter...

What about in a fairly busy, noisy public place? What's your 'glass' gonna do when it hears "ok glass, sdchksjrfghlsridfcunseirfucnkrfiyuzxfiuhsnxki4rucfseirfuncsei4ufncz" - that being 50 billion other voice commands as well as general background noise. While the concept might seem new and exciting, it's clearly impractical. And even if I was on my own, I'd feel like a pocky, effectively talking to myself.
