New Android Console
Quote:
News said that there's gonna be a new console which uses android. Its spec : Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal flash storage. SDK will be distributed for free so everyone can make their own games as long as they follow one condition : at least some of the gameplay they offer has to be free. It's planned to be launched on March 2013 for 99$.
Sauce
It is funny that they're building an android console lol. Although I'm sure with its price range, it'd sell easily *here (for kids, casual gamers, and gamer wannabe).

RE: New Android Console
I've been following this. Over 3mil raised on Kickstarter.
For $99, I 'd get one. I'm a fan of open-source and it's a really neat concept.

RE: New Android Console
Am a little critical of this.
Idealism can only go so far unfortunately. $99 is a good price point - cheaper than any other console and most phones, and comparable to those TV media devices (eg WDTV).
With the rise of Indie games and explosion of the Android platform though, it has a chance.
It won't replace the big corp backed consoles, or really even compete in the same league (at first), but could have its own niche.
Something else to consider though:
Quote:At a glance it seems legit, but on rereading, I had to wonder this myself:
Promise of "killer" opening price-point of $99.
Promise of "every game free-to-play".
Use of Android and other buzzwords.
Multitude of unrelated screenshots of unrelated, unsupported, non-Android games.
Promise of "easy rooting" (why would you need to root something if root was manufacturer-supported?)
Lots of pseudo-appeal to the "non-mainstream".
Release in 10 months with <$1mil budget.
>10,000+ consoles already promised at or below price-point.
This has a lot of "too-good-to-be-true" tempered by some things to make it seem reasonable. But with the promises made, I'm not sure. "Estimated Delivery: March 2013" is awfully soon to manufacture a console with presumably no prior hardware development experience. Do they have all their contracts already lined up? Is their software already developed? Just look how long it took to get the OpenPandora out.
All of this starts making you wonder "wait, is this really legit?" I certainly can't say it's not, but it seems either naive or too good to be true.

RE: New Android Console
the good point is that other countries (other than Jp, Kor, or US) can start making their console games industry,, and they don't need to be a big corporation lol
gets kinda chocolatety here because some universities started "game making" Strata program when there's actually almost no decent job for it available here. a few foreign companies rather take ppl from IT for programming or Art for drawing/modelling.

The great thing about Indie development. And it's these guys that seem to have creativity, so that wee don't constantly get yet-another-shooter games all the time.
I'm glad that the iPhone/Android platforms have brought some competition against the big corps (though the PC has always been open).
