The Memory Curse of Firefox
So apparently Firefox 7 was meant to reduce memory usage.  Dunno if it did or not, but I'm still getting the same issue as I did with older versions.

Memory leaks

To be fair, it could be one of the add-ons, IDK.
But the more you use it, the more memory it seems to want to consume.  7 tabs open, 1GB usage.  Restart, and it's under 200MB.

Wonder if it'll ever be fixed or whether I can pinpoint an add-on responsible, but for now, I guess it means I'll have to restart Firefox every once in a while.

I've never had Firefox use more than around 200MB.

RE: The Memory Curse of Firefox
Had enough of FF (remember my FF threads of days gone by?). Using Chrome now. Getting more things done.

RE: The Memory Curse of Firefox
Staying with chrome from now on. Fire Fox tends to cause memory spikes which play havoc with the system and Winamp. It may just be the add block addon, but I'm running that in Chrome and it seems fine. It sucks that it's plagued FF for so long now...

I've never had this issue with Firefox. I only use AdBlock though. It uses roughly 60 MB.

RE: The Memory Curse of Firefox
How long do you guys keep Firefox open?
I tend to never close it - i.e. keep it open for weeks.
Maybe I should try to pinpoint an add-on, although this is somewhat more difficult >_>

I might try one of the Chrome fudges some time.  I still hate how Chrome doesn't let you at least choose where you want to install it.  Hopefully it still has features that even IE6 had, like the ability to disable images.

RE: The Memory Curse of Firefox
I'd imagine that cycling tabs should "fix" the issue on Chrome though, since it uses separate processes?
I can see Opera having the same issue.
