Effffffff, should'nt have said that.
Hey everyone, it's tetris and I'm here to write a more entertaining and somewhat interactive blog post today.

To start, I was driving home at 2:30 am when I got into a conversation on religion with my friend. I just heard a lot about his religion and I wanted to clarify some things with him, it went well in a sense that I was asking a LOT of questions that sounded controversial, but obviously I felt that they needed to be said; of course, saying it to a friend is where these types of questions should appear.

So it went just fine until I dropped the bombshell (I noticed it right after I said it, silly me, yes, I'm a bad person) which was "So I heard your people have a logical approach to your religion (sikhism), so that many of the people take out what they find ridiculous in the religion and practice the things that make sense."

Oho ho shit, for obvious reasons you can tell why this dude took it offensively (or so I'm led to believe), I tried to reason it back that what they find ridiculous, but obviously, to no avail did this come across him as not-offensive. Coupled with the fact that I seemed to be "on the attack," safe to say that now I got some dude mad at me. The statement should have came out like this: "So I heard your people like to have a logical approach to the religion, so that they take from it what appeals to them and put it into practice, which of course, is all good things and other ways of life."

He's not a religious dude, but obviously he's pretty protective of his family and peoples religion, so instead of having this guy's hate glaring at my back I apologized for saying the wrong things and what not. (I respect people too! Obviously I never mean to hate on a select people or what not)

Thing is, he didn't even want to accept the apology or in a way that would usually mean "yeah I forgive you."

So yup, remember kids, even your friends who aren't exactly religious will still get offended if you go too far with your questioning.

I don't know what to do, so I guess I'll let this pass, unfortunately now I got a guy that hates my guts atm; it's not the most appealing thing I should say. Yawn.

If you have any interesting comments, please share.

You talk a lot.

For better and for worse.

Evidently in reality as well.

Shame it ended that way but a bit sad to hear it took it the wrong way and couldn't get over it though.

RE: Effffffff, should'nt have said that.
I had a similar conversation with one of my very religious Christian friends once. I don't think I offended him, but like you just had questions to ask regarding Christianity and his views etc.

Personally, the deeper wee got into the conversation, the more I really thought he had been brain washed into it. Its something he had no choice in as his family was religious, and not given the chance to make up his own mind, I don't think he could see it any other way. However that's just what I think.

I myself am not a religious person at all really, and I remember him telling me that although I was a good mate and a good person, because I wasn't Christian id be going to Hell.

Now I believe I stopped the conversation about there as there were things I new I wanted to argue back, but im sure they would offend him purely because of his beliefs.

Religion is such a tricky subject, and one hard to have conversation with because of so many conflicting views from so many people.

I don't think it's a problem with talking a lot, rather, just what you need to watch what you're saying. Obviously, I didn't, which is why I'm writing about this mistake I made, If I get spoon for it; I guess I deserve it.

I digress though, I think about things very thoroughly and I never feel that I can say everything encompassing one thought, which is why I tend to write/talk a lot. Maybe I'm stupid? I'm not exactly sure.

:/

Now that I think on it, I think the problem is that I feel TOO comfortable around others outside my family and such comfort tends to make me slip my tongue in the false sense that I can be loose with people. *shrug*

But I do agree, If I'm going to be less loose with people, it's probably going to come from me talking less; kinda sad that this isn't the first time that I've realized this.
Doubt it's going to be my last either, I'm hopeless

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...this is obviously what I should have done, I know what you mean grey ghost, it's just that I felt like breaking that mould that separates people, with it just coming to a very bad end. I can see why no one ever trespasses this line, even the best of buddies. I'm kind of boned that my attempts only facilitates the reason as why you should stay the hell away from such topics.

I think the worst apart about this is that I need to ride it out now, that's just me bitchin' though.

This is why I generally avoid discussing religion with people especially if their views are not mine. It's a subject that people are very touchy about and also very stubborn too. Hopefully your friend can look past this.

^Pretty much this.  People get offended easily, so I just avoid the topic all together...

There are 3 things you shouldn't talk about with other people: Religion, Politics, and Internet Memes.
