Some sites may provide multiple mirrors when you wish to download a file, often denoted by "mirror 1", "mirror 2" etc.

Which mirror do you often pick?

If I can't download from the site directly I usually use the mirror 1. Rarely use mirror 2 or others

usually they state where the server is from, i use the one in asia if possible, if not then US.

It all depends on the servers available, and what I'm browsing the web with.

If I'm on my laptop, then I would generally go for the MegaUpload link, if no direct link available.
I try to avoid MediaFire, as it has been well known to corrupt files stored on the site.
I try to avoid anything with surveys or the like.  And lately, uploaded.to has been a pain in the a$$ to download from..

If I am browsing from my PSP, and there is no direct link available, then I would go for sendspace, as it is one of the few hosting sites the PSP web browser is still able to retrieve files from.  

I have been trying to help attach really small files here @ EP when ppl post news.   That way, people browsing the site with their PSP will not have a problem downloading files.

To clarify, I'm somewhat referring to sites which just dump links and don't really tell anything about a particular host or the location of it.
Eg:
