so ive realized that you guys listen to vastly different music than i do, and i want to share what i like. so, until i get bored, i will post one song a day in this thread.
they will be songs you probably havent heard of, or havent heard in a long time.
they will be some of my absolute favorite songs of all time.
i do listen to a lot of stuff that you guys do, but, the purpose of this is to introduce you to new music, not have you listen to what you have already heard.
so onto the first song!
this is called fast car, by Tracy Chapman. it was written in 1989, and included on her first released album, also her self titled album. the theme of the song is poverty, and i think the atmosphere created by both the acoustics and the words is beautiful.
they're a bluegrass band, a genre of music which many of you who are not from the united states have probably never heard of.
bluegrass is the music of what wee call "hillbillies" or people who live in the Appalachian mountains, relatively isolated from the rest of society. they are often viewed as being very backwards and unsophisticated, and their music is played primarily on banjo, fiddle (like a violin), mandolin, and the stand up bass (i think its called a cello, but don't quote me...)
