RE: RPG Game Project
There's a merge game under the file tab in game maker which merges two games together. But from what I tried, it looks like it could get messy though.

GM 7 Free or Pro?
Neither - it's impractical to move a few MB .gmd file around (especially with my connection).
Hope there's some game making application which actually splits files, otherwise, wee may have to fall back on something like a real platform (C++)...

or maybe wee can divide levels between people.

if its programming, then I can't help out much. :(

yes, very messy indeed...
I remember when I merged my game with the light engine I was using it took at least a good hour (not to be confused with a bad one) to sort everything into working order...

Then there is integration and you must make sure all the scripts and objects are linked...
also you might have to check to make sure nobody is using the same variables for different things...

ZiNgA BuRgA Wrote:Cool.

Just checked Game Maker 7 (they had it installed on Uni computers, double you tee eff?) but it saves everything into a single file, and is binary based (gonna be poo poo for sharing).  Could work out if there's a way to link images to the .gmd file and there's only a small amount of people working on the game development.

Is there a way to link images, rather than embed them in the file?  Also, I need to start assigning some roles...

Yeah our schools have it installed for the sucktastic programming course I wish I never took.
I know more than the teacher (seriously) so when I get done with my assignments I've been building pacman with flash cs3 (They sort of sucked it up I like flash 8 better).

That gives me an idea...
Actionscript is relatively easy and could get the job done. Then wee could play it online too, but actionscript isn't a very powerful language and I don't know the scale of everything wee want to do...

also actionscript can get a laggy if too much is going on at once.

Can be a good incentive for me to learn more programming.

I won't know too much more than you. My programming skill is lets say... extremely limited.

RE: RPG Game Project
To the poll:
Turn-based without a doubt. Real time is good though. If wee're doing turn based though none of that ATB poo poo that Final Fantasy has. It is stupid system and heavily disadvantages slow characters to the point that they're unusable.

To emphasize: In FF7 Cait Sith has massive Max HP and Defense but his speed is so bad he never gets a single turn (Even if he was fast though, no man in their right mind would use him anyway). In Xenogears Rico's gear has a MASSIVE attack stat but never even gets one turn to use it and ends up watching his own gear get blown up by enemies.

Also the wait times... god the wait times...

I've never been a huge fan of Final Fantasy anyway. Xenogears is the best RPG ever though >_>

You could compress it with WinRAR and split the files. A Game Maker game worth a lot MB is generally frowned upon however and RPGs do involve a lot of data. I would think C++ would be the best option but at the moment I know very little of the language.

I'm one of these people who use everyone, rather than sticking with a select group. Yes, I agree that it's inefficient to use everyone, and probably makes it much harder, but it's more fun that way (well, to me).

If I really wanted to double you tee eff pwn everything (not my style. what's the fun when you can kill them before they can even hit you), then I still wouldn't do it through loads of training and/or using an elite super buffed team, I would simply hax. I sometimes hax anyway, like I seriously can't be stuffed training myself up to beat Ruby/Emerald. That would take way too long.

7zip > Winrar.

I get the impression more people use WinRAR. That and I don't use 7zip. I used to for those 7z files but now WinRAR can extract those I believe.
