Summer Job(s)
Hey EP,

I need help deciding something. Well, I'm pretty known well around the school especially by the seniors. (So much, that when they graduate, I will have to make friends with the seniors... again) Anyways, one of the seniors referred me to her mom with regards to website stuff. (Well, I'm good with computers, do website stuff apply?.. :p) So, her mom calls me asking me to help her with a website. I go over to their house, and she wanted me to transfer pages from one site to another and get it live. Simple enough. The job was practically done for me already, the domain just needed to get activated. So I mess around with that for a good hour, and I got it configured... To make this short, I got the site live within a day or two after the domain configuration. Did I get paid? Yes - $40. Figured, good enough.

The next job she wants me to do is transfer pages from one domain to the next, set up a re-direct with the old domain, and edit some of the pages, get the new site live. Took me 2 hours to do, and I couldn't do everything in that one day. However, the majority of the job was done, and I waited around for a week to get paid. (Since she has to get paid from the owner of the site first). She said it was from a bigger company. Therefore, I would get a bigger pay. So I waited. Earlier, she stops by, and pays me... - $75.

Now with a lot of jobs just waiting for me, I was wondering if I should just give up looking for a summer job and just take these odd jobs with website designing. If I keep getting paid like this, I can probably get enough money for a Xbox360 / PS3 by the end of 2-3 months.. :D At the same time though, if I get a summer job on top of this (which has been pretty hard), I can get a whole lot more and that means, Xbox360/PS3 getting to my house faster. Genius, yes. But, it can be overkill.

So, do you guys think I should just take the ood jobs when they come, or go and get a summer job and use odd jobs for extra money. Sounds like a GTA decision. hehe.

By the way, why is the input box like the size bigger than a  1024x768 screen? It looks ugly, and I only have 1 monitor. Can it be fixed back?

RE: Summer Job(s)
I'd say get a summer job with flexible hours on top of that one. That way, you have steady pay, plus nice little bonuses, and when you need, you can readjust your steady work schedule.

RE: Summer Job(s)
I would get a part time job, because for 4 hours a day, six days a week, that's at least $140, and four hours a day isn't that much.

RE: Summer Job(s)
I gave up looking for a job because they don't pay well relatively, however they do provide a reliable source of munneh.

I'm doing this website now for someone, which is basically just setting up an osCommerce site for now, and getting eur100. If I can do a few more of these similar jobs around the summer then that's enough for me, better than doing one week of hard physical labor for the same money (and you learn from/enjoy this more)

RE: Summer Job(s)
if your getting paid like this, go for it

many 15 - 21 year olds only get 8 - 12 $$ an hour for work, why not take advantage of this opportunity?

RE: Summer Job(s)
I'm in uni at the moment, and up to now, I have never worked (on a job) for a single hour.

And I can effectively earn $25/hr from teaching maths. (Through the uni. My friends are doing it, and my maths is not worse than theirs).

Maybe i should get off my donkey and get a job, during the end of year break or something, when I waste a lot of time doing nothing.

RE: Summer Job(s)
Think about what you want:

Advantages of web stuff:
- Generally, flexible hours
- Can be done from home
- Generally pays better than most part time jobs you can get for your age, but that assumes a number of things (ie being able to find clients)
- Since you say you enjoy it, there's that too
- Looks better on future resumes

Advantages of part time job:
- Generally more steady source of income (so you don't have to actively seek clients etc)
- You get to socialize too (usually)
- Less motivation to work hard, since you're being paid by the hour, so you can slack off a bit
- References

Most jobs you'll find on the internet, web related, are typically website design, or coding (or both).  From what I've seen, most people probably earn, on average, around US$30 and up per hour.

Earning enough for a console is easy.  You shouldn't really make that your aim - it'll be too easy.
If you tried, you could easily earn enough for one in a few weeks, not months.

Huh?
