The Death of Quality Videogames
Well, people, it's official, quality videogames are on their way out. EA is buying Take Two Games for 2 billion dollars. This means that Grand Theft Auto, Bioshock, The Elder Scrolls Series, Fallout, and various other critically acclaimed series are going to be owned by EA from now on. They're gonna be mass-produced, with all the originality sucked out of them.
The worst part is that the head of EA is being a complete pocky about it. He says "wee won't change the way they make games, wee'll just sell them" as if Take Two's games don't sell without EA. Last I checked, GTA: San Andreas topped even Halo 2 when it came out, and Bioshock sold so many copies on its first 2 days that it crashed Irrational Games' and Steam's servers. THem saying that they'll "actually sell the games" is just their way of saying they want to cash in on the GTAIV phenomenon. Bastards.
Here are some of the news sources. Sorry, they're from Gamespot, but that's where I heard it first. I'll try to find some other sources.

RE: The Death of Quality Videogames
games in general have been on a downward spiral lately.. wee need something new and original instead rehashes of sequels like devil may cry 4 which is the same all the other DMC games.. no innovation at all (not saying its a bad game just not anything new)... im looking forward to games like spore and a few of the indie games ive seen at GDC.. for real how many ww2 fps are wee gonna have? how many middle east war games are wee gonna have? i hope this year has some good games in store for us and not just sequels or more of the same with better graphics.. as long as gta4 isn't ruined by EA

RE: The Death of Quality Videogames
i fudgeing hate EA, if they buyout Take-Two I'll kill someone just to please myself, and jack thompson, but the matter won't be because i saw it in a videogame it will be because i hate EA and all it stands for, sure they have good games, but my favorite titles have been ruined because of it, like burnout, it was a great game without EA and then they buy Criteron and the game turns into a cheap upgrade with SSX elements, i hate EA and i will kill someone dammit

RE: The Death of Quality Videogames
Yep EA are poo poo, endless sequels and a total lack of original quality games.
It's like most big companies lose direction, have no creativity and buy smaller developers (who end up pumping out sequels after the buyout).

RE: The Death of Quality Videogames
Sure, EA are poo poo from that perspective, but people keep buying the games [that's probably because there aren't enough GOOD games anyway]
Yea, what did happen to the genius of the game of the past?
People are running out of ideas, and the same applies to Movies now too.
At least games like Portal and Spore are relatively original.
But fear not, I do believe that Games will Rise again, in the form of the Wii 2!!!!!

RE: The Death of Quality Videogames
Don't screw over Starcraft 2, and I'll be happy.
I don't play much games these days. If I head something like this 4 years ago, I probably would've cared a lot. Now I'm indifferent.
