RE: PSP Firmware V3.70 Released.
well nice to meet you vibestar, and lol @ 9 from you and one from another creator.
I think of the situation liek this:
Sony = 1.5 points
Hacking scene = 5 points

1 point because they made the psp.
0.5 because they finally started doing what people wants.

5 points because:
1st point - wee hacked the psp
2nd point - wee can run homebrew
3rd point - wee can customize the psp (fully)
4th point - wee can unbrick psps - pandora
5th point - wee can downgrade every psp - pandora

1 negative point for hacking scene - wee can run isos. the psp will lose games if sony doesn't implement homebrew and fully customization into OFW, sony must do something to make users stay there instead of this side. I would probably be there if i could run homebrew and fully customize my psp. i don't play isos.

Interesting, the compressed files are just compressed GIM images, like the following (32 bit BMP image):

(obviously from classypink; I can't seem to download the other PTF file...)

The file format of the PTF files don't seem to be complex, so... >_>

that's _exactly_ what i did too :>
:P

All PTFs seem to contain are images, or at least, mostly images.  There may be one other type of resource, but it's mostly images.  No text, page, anim, PRX offsets etc etc.

Hmm, because there's two types of image files in there (marked 0x05 = GIM, 0x04 = ???; in RCOs, 0x00 = PNG).  There seems to be only one file marked with 0x04, so it's probably the wallpaper I guess.  I'll decompress it when I get home to confirm this, unless you beat me to it :P

RE: PSP Firmware V3.70 Released.
Oh, and bstronga, I just had a look at the type and compression flags, and compared them with RCOs.  Yeap, 0x04 for BMP works with RCOs as well.  Here's a few more I found:
  • 0x00 = PNG
  • 0x01 = JPEG
  • 0x02 = TIFF
  • 0x03 = GIF
  • 0x04 = BMP
  • 0x05 = GIM

I presume that the PTF file uses the same flag for image type then.  All the above filetypes can be placed inside an RCO, however, only GIM transparency is supported :(  Using PNGs for icons would've been nice, but then, you'd be stuck with square icons...
Highly unlikely, but could be possible that the PTF does support PNG/GIF/BMP/TIFF transparency...

The compression flag is a little different however, in RCOs, 0x00 = uncompressed, 0x01 = deflated, 0x02 = RLZ packed.  In PTF, 0x01 = RLZ packed, so I assume that 0x00 = uncompressed, meaning that deflated is probably not supported...  Ah well.
