RE: An idea to use 8gb on 1.5 kernel!!
Hi,
Firstly, this isn't a discovery, so being placed into the PSP General Discussion.
knuckles84 Wrote:so i have compare the prx from the:
kd folder wath is the kernel folder from 1.5
and the kn folder whatis the kernel folder from 3.52
Comparing the two is like comparing a banana with a loaf of bread...
Messing up the kd folder will cause bricks, so not a good choice.
I doubt it's an easy thing to fix. I think many things in the firmware or homebrew probably use 32 bit addressing, which limits you to 4GB. Again, I'm not sure, but homebrew coded for the 3.xx kernel may be able to use 8GB memsticks. So it's really an issue on the homebrew side more than it is an issue with the firmware.

RE: An idea to use 8gb on 1.5 kernel!!
the problem aren't only the homebrew but, everthing like the plugins
if i woult use a plugin i must delete everthing on my 8gb stick than past my plug in and recopie everything.
this is not a realy big work but it takes time. And only to test plugins or update an existent plugin.
there must be an other solution that the 1.5 kernel can read more than 2gb!!!

In this context, custom made (unsigned) plugins _are_ homebrew.

Uhh, if it takes time, isn't it a big job then?

(I really have limited knowledge on PSP kernels and stuff, so most of this will be speculation)
Depends. If the 1.50 kernel was designed with memsticks larger than 4GB in mind (Sony would have considered it I guess) then it may not be too hard, provided the kernel can be edited (which may not be the case).
If the 1.50 kernel wasn't designed with >4GB memsticks, then it's definitely not an easy task.
