Combine the Galaxy S's native MKV support, (almost) flawless 720p playback and mVideoPlayer's embedded donkey support and you have a winnar!!

I find it a little too small to watch stuff on sometimes though.

RE: tells me ep
I would just look into a tablet device oo (a tablet pc probably)
a small tablet computer running windows should be able to hold enough anime and with the K-Lite codec pack should play almost any MKV

but then I suppose that depends on how portable you want.
I doubt you could find (m)any pocket sized devices that with a 1080p screen on them Erk

RE: tells me ep
Well then I have no other ideas
I want that portable PC sensei was talking about a while ago
it was barely under pocket sized but it was like a full pc running windows vista or windows XP and it had like a 1.8 ghz process

I think that thing might have the ability oo

it was a sony N-something or other
nevermind
http://www.buy.com/prod/sony-vaio-vgnux3...80993.html

1.3 ghz processor, but it's probably running other stuff Erk
don't know if it could do it or not but it seems like a decent device and would have plenty of format support since it is actually running windows

So i just want something portable like that for anime

If you haven't already you could try the AVPlayer app on your iPad, I heard it can do miracles at times!^^ Though I haven't tried it myself yet >.<  (much less on an iPad since I don't have one ^^;; )

I'd think any current tablet would suffice. You could always use a different format though and still have a high quality video.

Wonder if the PSV will support 1080p decoding.

Or just download 720p videos.  1080p doesn't actually look any better than 720p in most cases.  I pretty much never get 1080p - waste of disk space and bandwidth IMO for zero quality gain.

and 1080p playback on a very low-res screen is a big waste of time rukia ^^"

might as well download low-res videos because they'll look great on a low-res screen

RE: tells me ep
Regarding all the talk about DXVA capable graphics chips, that will also depend on if your encode is DXVA compatible at all.  I mean, DXVA has certain restrictions, like no more than 4 ref frames at 1080p, and others.  While most scene rippers follows those, a lot of anime rippers don't seem to care (they're all like "use CCCP and your shit will work, wee support nothing else").

regarding portable devices, a huge problem is the .ASS (Advanced SubStation format) embedded softsubs found in 99.9% of MKV anime encodes, I doubt many non-laptop portable players, if any, supports that.  So your subs won't show up.  Also segment linking (ordered chapters) which gets used a lot for BD encodes, definitely won't work on properly on non-laptop portables.

What I'm saying is trying to play directly downloaded 1080p anime from the internet, on a portable device, is unreliable at best.  You may as well just go download an easy to use encoder from somewhere and re-encode your stuff.

He speaks the truth... well for anime at least.

RE: tells me ep
Yeah I usually just get 720p anyway Erk

but I think the idea here is that if she can only find the 1080p format she wants to be able to play. It's about capability and convenience?
