Where did you read that?  The only difference between it and the 60GB version will be the harddrive and no more Emotion Engine.

I'm not disappointed in you, I'm disappointed in myself, for believing in you.

Otherwise => don't get PS3.

You have your answer.  (since you have 3 current-gen consoles, as well as a new laptop, chances are that you have money exploding your wallet)

Lol, End Of:out:

I heard that's just some theoretical value Sony feeds people, and that in actual reality, the PS3 can't perform even close to that amount. U can't rely on theoretical maximums.

The Cell Arcitecture is more than capable of crunching numbers at that speed, the problem is that cell has almost no advanced instruction set to speak of, although why you were taking the performance of a geforce graphics card to debunk the power of cell is completely beyond me.

metalgear, I would still tell people to wait in getting a ps3, unless they have other things they want it for (fast as fudge linux distro, cheap as hell blu-ray player). The games are coming but they are taking there time.

That was a long time ago...

Pulling up old threads?

And I'm taking the performance of a geforce graphics card not to debunk the power of the cell, but to debunk the power of the PS3  graphiccs card.

Sony claims that the total ouput is 2 Teraflops. With 1.8TFlops comming from the GPU, and the Cell doing 218GFlops.

Ok, I don't have problems with the Cell doing 218GFlops. I'm talking about the GPU. The GPU shouldn't come close to 1.8TFlops, considering that it's based on the same architecture as the geforce 7900 card, which does like what, 1/10 that much.

RE: Is the PS3 worth it?
First, I didn't pull up this thread, ginger minger did.

And the PS3's G70 derived GPU gets it's boost from the memory bandwidth it has, 256Mb of XDR@3.2Ghz opposed to 256Mb of DDR3@1.4Ghz. Of course, it doesn't match what sony say exactly but neither does the geforce 7/8/anything nvidia have ever said about there cards, or ATi/AMD, or Intel.
