Based roughy on release date what i paid for each:
Gameboy £60
Gameboy advance £90
DS £130
3DS £220ish

I think double the price for the next generation of console is too much. That said, im an idiot and will probably go out and buy 1 before i even realised ive been brainwashed into it.
Import from US?
Also effects of inflation and drop in the value of GBP could be factors.
I recall Gameboys costing around $200 about 15 years ago here, and current gen handhelds really aren't that much more...

Phone cameras really aren't that good (and if you're getting an iPhone for mainly the camera, you're paying a heckload of a premium for it).
Though personally, I'm not into the megapixel bullchocolate that cameras are now marketing.  Can easily get a 640x480 image and upscale it to 8 megapixels if I want to.  I care about actual lens quality, not the number of pixels.
I'm doubting the PSV's camera lenses are any good, but wee'll have to see.

Now I have to pay more money to buy my own memory stick.  Yay
I actually prefer external memory.  I mean, the 32GB iPod is like only $100 more than the 16GB version.  Can get 16GB M2 cards for $60 here.  Plus you have the upgrade path if you need to in the future, whereas internal memory, you're stuck with what you got.

$250 isn't bad for an MP3/MP4 player with a 5in OLED screen IMO.  About the same cost as an 8GB iPod Touch which only has a 3.2in LCD screen.
Still, I'm seeing if there's a worthwhile 5in Android device instead.  Don't play that many games nowadays, so to hell with hacking, plus Andoid has a much bigger app market.

What I meant to say is Sony should have given us 16 GB flash memory and a slot for external memory. (like the PSP GO)

Sony  Wrote:Q: Do you have any plans to introduce a video output cable? Will PS Vita have HDMI output?
A: No, PS Vita does not have a video output feature.

Q: Can you take out the battery from the system?
A: No. Wee have adopted embedded battery since PS Vita is equipped with a rear touch pad.

lol it doesn't have video out. Yay
Who came up with the idea of rear touch pad. Facepalm It just seems like Sony is trying to rape people's pockets.

I'm just going to wait a few months till PSV 2000 comes out. Hopefully that will have video out.

hmm... I'm pretty much a hikikomori, so mp3/mp4 player wouldn't be so useful for me.
i prefer handheld actually because i don't have a TV (and doesn't have enough room for it).
and i dislike most PC games,, except galge/eroge (yeah.. for boredom relief XD)

That'd be nice, but you'd expect it to cost more that way...
Besides, not everyone needs 16GB.  With this, I can chose to get a small 2GB card and save $$$.
Nevertheless, there will probably be a bundle being sold which includes a memory stick anyway, but yeah, will cost more than the stock console by itself.

Personally don't care too much about video out - it's meant to be a low resolution (though PSV not so much) handeld console after all.  I agree it would be nice though.
Would like removable battery too (even though the battery cover on my PSP is screwed up) but it seems that many devices these days don't have replacable batteries :(

Would've at first suggested a netbook, but you said you don't like PC games.  Though I'm surprised, because the PC will always have a significantly larger range of games available than any console, so one would expect that you'd find plenty to like there.  Unless you only play the latest stuff, where consoles seem to have an edge these days.
Don't have room for even a small TV?  Is the computer (or laptop if that's what you're using now) in your room?  A number of monitors now can accept HDMI I believe, so you could plug in a console to your monitor if you don't have room for another screen.

if you includes emulator, indeed it has larger range of games. but i don't really like emulators since they are kinda unstable and needs bigger resource than what it takes on actual console.
it doesn't have to be the latest,,i just like japanese/anime games more than western's,, and they seem to produce more console games than PC's. (non eroge i mean)
i hate FPS, RTS, and sandbox. get bored easily on western RPG and i don't have the mood to play mini games (like gamehouse) that often.

my room is 3m x 3m,, I'm using a 3 years old laptop.
like 14 inch TV? i think i can,, but I've experienced playing xbox 360 with 14 inch CRT TV, and it sucked. buying monitor only for playing console doesn't sound that good either.
gonna check wii U's development too. it seems interesting, and nintendo are known to be hacked easier ;o

or if those don't fulfill my expectation i'd rather sell my laptop and get a new one. i think  current psp could satisfy me enough for the next 1-2 years. (or so i hope)

It's drastically larger without emulators.  Consoles generally only last a few years.  With the PC, you can play all the old DOS games still.
And I'm not going to go into all the online Flash games, "fan made"/hobbyist games and whatnot.  The PC simply eclipses any console in terms of number of games available (quality is subjective).
As for emulators, out of the usable ones, the only ones that use a lot of resources would be the PS2, Wii and DS emulators from memory.  The others run on fairly old hardware and fairly stable - in fact, I'd prefer emulation to a real console (turbo mode + savestates are really useful).

Though if you're into JRPGs, they seem to be primarily for consoles, and you'd be restricted to emulators, thus older ones, if you want to play them on the PC.
