ZoneAlarm giving away ZoneAlarm Pro next week
Been looking for a free firewall for Windows 7, but none seem to be satisfactory >_>
Had been using the free Outpost firewall before on XP, but the free version doesn't work on Windows 7. ZoneAlarm free doesn't work either. Tried the free Windows 7 Firewall Control but ultimately don't like it's lack of functionality.
Well anyway, whilst I was looking around, found this: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2354020,00.asp
ZA giving away ZA Pro for 24 hours next week if anyone's interested in a copy. Have no idea on Win7 compatibility.

I use ESET Smart Security. I really like the firewalll that it has because it alerts you if anything is accessing or coming through it. This allows me to regulate network poo poo pretty easily and it's running very well on 7600 (RTM).

You must have it on a higher sensitivity.
I also use ESET and find it to be excellent.

My firewall is set to interactive. I've managed to keep some nasty things out with it too. If you also circumvate your software it's an easy way to keep it from connecting to it's server. ;)

that blatently sounds like the [OMITTED] - but the dll replacement one works better, sort of. (broke my 64-bit version LOL)

RE: ZoneAlarm giving away ZoneAlarm Pro next week
I've had ZoneAlarm Pro on 2 PCs before, and ZoneAlarm ends up eating quite a bit of CPU and virtual memory. It slows things down quite a bit, but I guess if you had a good-enough PC, you wouldn't notice it.

RE: ZoneAlarm giving away ZoneAlarm Pro next week
I don't think NOD has a free firewall though.
Actually, all I really need is something that allows me to control what uses the net on a per application basis. Not too interested about security, so a free basic firewall which doesn't have a lot of features should be suffice, like the free Outpost one.
I recall used to running ZA on my really old 533MHz computer before - maybe it's now bloated with all the stuff they're adding in I guess? The free firewall shouldn't have most of the poo poo though, not compatible with Win7 however.
