PMP-AVC isn't. It's an inferior container format. However, PMP is much easier to synch than MP4, which is why it requires much less computational power to decode.
PMP-Mod has always been a much better player than the XMB one if you ask me.
And at 66MHz, it consumes MUCH less battery than the XMB's player running at 222MHz.

wonder if this is the same fact on this.
It plays DivX/XviD video streams muxed into the PMP container.
In fact, it's the only homebrew player which supports resolutions up to 720x576 for DivX/XviD video (it'll lag though).

DivX is a video codec, not a file format (though there was a "DivX container", but no-one really ever used it).
DivX/XviD support has been around a long time. The PSP's firmware plays DivX/XviD encoded in Simple Profile, muxed into the MP4 container since FW1.00. PMP-Mod also supports DivX/XviD, but they must be muxed into the PMP container.
What most people want, is DivX/XviD playback inside the AVI container. I highly doubt that'll ever occur.
Remuxing only takes a few minutes at the very most anyway. If cooleyes implements hardware decoding, IDK, but PMP-Mod runs at 333MHz clock - this may go down, and will probably allow content larger than 480x272 to play without lag.
