Heck, if wee consider the trend of possible development...  I mean, for example, it's customarily believed that there are two genders, although many these days may consider otherwise...  And then, customarily, relationships are typically between two people of opposite gender, but with some countries legalising same sex marriage, perhaps that's starting to break down.  If you take that into consideration, why does a relationship have to involve two people anyway?  Couldn't there be three? four?  All sorts of interesting complex relationships could arise, with the amount of open mindedness around these days...
