For one thing, companies do an incentive to make good quality products or they'll get slogged with returns.  I personally wouldn't call Archos "small" either...

Yes, that's entirely true, but if there's room for mistakes; the most logical choice would be to choose the one that you know doesn't allow them to happen as much as other companies. I don't think it's about build qualities persay, but just about the community that backs a device, like the xbox 360 or the ipod/iphone scene itself.

Both are weak/unreliable devices, but they just have so much support that they are the ones to bring you the best bang for your buck and not leaving you disappointed.
