Still, if I want to lend a friend some movies, I'm not going to put it on a USB drive. Similar thing if you're giving it away.
Optical media is becoming less useful for data storage these days, yes, which is why I questioned whether your next upgrade will be to optical media or not :P
This was in my previous point. Optical storage would be ideal for storing data that is not to be tampered. Of course, in case of movies, there are many ways to get around that, but that's the idea. I did say that they are going to be limited to becoming a entertainment distribution media.
