Windows Media Centre...
is actually a lot bettern than i imagined it would be
I decided to set up the app to use my TV card considering the Vista app is awful, so windows 7 would expectedly be worse
I ran the wizard for setting up my TV card. IT asked me my location and postcode before downloading my channel listing. On my old app, the one that came with it, it was a $10 a month supplement (strangely, despite being in theUK and ordering a UK part with UK software). It then detected my hardware, and, instead of the trial and error of my old app, where you had to guess which port was which, it told me how many channels were available on each, making the right one easy to identify. Then it did a full scan to get proper signals, and it was away. It doesn't lag if i do other things with the radio in the background like my old app used to, and it doesn't stutter on my N64 like my old app.
So, to sumarize, after avoiding WMC for ages, i actually find its what i wanted all along. Although i don't see it replacing Winamp for music management, or just plain browsing for Pics, i could see me using it to index Videos, which Winamp seems to have trouble with for whatever reason it decided to hate my Folder layout, and will certainly use it to watch what little TV i do
Anyone else use WMC, got any opinions about it?
