Threaded Mode | Linear Mode

With the advancement of computer games to the point that they can look almost real, I wonder why people don't leverage off this idea and put it to use for things other than games.

With Universities these days (well at least mine) they're increasingly putting lecture materials available on the course website.  In fact, for some of my software engineering lectures, the audio and Powerpoint is posted on the net, thus you can basically have the lecture at home (though I would still prefer the lecture theater).
So if this trend continues, you may no longer actually need to go to Uni for lectures...  But how would this be attained?

If you look at things like World of Warcraft, it seems that wee do have the technology to make things like "virtual lecture theaters".  What do you think of the idea?

If people spend hours doing repetitive tasks (for training) in MMORPGs, don't you think they may as well learn something whilst constantly bashing monsters?

a big plus of actually going to a college as aposed to taking classes online has always been the social networking aspect. you gain contacts and new ideas etc, intergrating a virtual community is a logical next step.

Of course, but just look at the amount of "socialising" that has gone online? Almost everyone my age has used and often uses MSN...

What was those other sites? MySpace, FaceBook ...? (dunno, never go to them).

i went to a party with some younger friends , afterward i asked if anyone got any digits( i did, the formatted fat chick i mentioned somewhere else) anyway, they're all noooo, nobody does that anymore, they swap myspace spoon.

i use often use myspace everyday, and also AIM or Yahoo messenger.

Thanks god, its not jsut me who despises myspace/facebook/bebo/ anyhting else like that which causes my family to take the PC off me and cut my downloading time :P

Still use MSN though, i have friends i wouldnt be able to talk to else

Oh...and, on topic, this is a really interesting point actually. Will wee eventually get to a stage where socializing will no longer physically exist, will the internet slowly phase out everything....you got to be careful how you step really
