@Zingas post:
I'm sure he's only doing it to get some good PR and I'm sure he's not getting a penny from his lawsuits they're mainly for show.

RE: Megaupload returning - New name 'Me.ga'
If you are looking for a specific type of file than cannot be found on other file sharing sites because of said file sharing sites' policies, they will not be found on or stay on Me.ga, unless Kim wants to get sued again for hosting said specific types of files.
Spoiler for Read:
Your pirated stuff ain't comin' back online.
Spoiler for By the way:
Let's not have this thread turn into a discussion on what and what isn't piracy, because wee all know where that'll go.

like the guy who made the universal darkness psp themes (vincentwiliamphilips)
they were awesome themes but they can't be downloaded anymore because they were megaupload links :(
piracy is a b*tch
i hope it doesn't ruin this new megaupload

As long as the ocean exists, there will be piracy.

I don't know about you, but I'd personally put blame on the authorities who decided to violate a handful of laws to shut the site down, with little regard for how it affected others...

RE: Megaupload returning - New name 'Me.ga'
So the Gabon Government denied Kim's .ga address, so he's gone with mega.co.nz.

Apparently launching on 20th Jan 2013.
Quote:Dotcom has claimed that the new service will be a lot safer and that users’ data will be encrypted. "You hold the keys to what you store in the cloud, not us," the teaser site read.

The new domain, Mega.co.nz, will be protected by the law and that lobbyist won’t be able to do anything about it Dotcom has claimed. “The judiciary in New Zealand works. Judges are independent and not influenced by politics. That has been our experience so far,” Dotcom told TorrentFreak.

“Prime Minister John Key can have as many dinners with Hollywood executives and copyright lobbyists as he likes. The simple fact is that the NZ government, which has been acting like a subsidiary of the US government, is not above the law,” he explains.

Dotcom believes that if the New Zealand government goes about trying to ban Mega or other similar service through a new legislation, cloud storage would near its extinction. “The New Zealand government can try to draft new legislation to ban services like Mega but that would be the end of cloud storage and online service providers in New Zealand and probably also the end of the current government,” Dotcom explained.

maybe KimDotCom should use philippine domain (.com.ph) since they can't sue your company if you have illegal activities here (file sharing, etc), :P

Spoiler for don't look, might destruct your mind:

RE: Megaupload returning - New name 'Me.ga'
So a few hours ahead of the site launch, these guys got a preview.

tldr: mega.co.nz will basically be a clone of various other locker services that give you some web space like Google Drive / DropBox etc.  50GB space for free users, stand out features being automatic encryption and hosted on nodes around the globe.

50GB is a fair amount of space comparitively, but nowhere near the unlimited that MegaUpload originally had.  Claimed client-side encryption of all uploads (unsure how the key distribution works, or how secure it even is) is interesting, although you could do this yourself via encrypted archives.
I suppose the 'distributed' part is basically where Mega is leasing out many servers around the place instead of focusing on data centres?

I'm a member since this morning. All the files are encrypted using a 2048-bit RSA key that Mega doesn't have. In theory, it's ingenious.
