I'm guessing the 3DS is relying on the fact that your face is relatively close to the screen, and generally not at much of an angle, to deliver the 3D effect. Also, the 3DS requires you to manually adjust the "3D effect" to get it right, which is probably how it does it without the glasses. 3DTVs don't have this luxury unfortunately.

As well as the fact that all games will be region locked so you'll either have to import all your games or wait for the system to be hacked.

I read that the 3ds also works great if you change the angle a bit,. also the slider is to adjust the depth so this is kinda an optional 3d setting,. i am guessing,.
Read the article krystabegnalie posted a link of,. the 3d tv optimal distance is 90cm but also works for greater distances,. however the angle or sweet-spot is bit sensitive,.. duh,..

Well, this is my speculation, but I'm guessing the 3DS uses a similar concept to the non-glasses TV in that the screen diffracts 2 images. Viewing it from a slight angle will probably work, but I doubt it'll work past 45 degrees (though LCDs tend to not work so well on an angle anyway). The slider probably just adjusts the separation, which, if you don't move your head, will change the "depth", but it can make it work better depending on your distance to the screen.
