SONY Discontinues Current PSP Dev Kits
The SONY PSP has had a good run, but it looks like the ride is almost over.
news via vg247:
Quote:SCEE has sent notice to developers it will no longer be selling current PSP development past November 15.
According to a notice sent to a Spanish distributor, via PSPgweber, SCEE will “no longer be selling the PSP development tool (dtp-t2000a) or testing tool (dtp-h2500a)” and those that are in need of the kits should order them in advance before November 15 hits. Sony will then advise developers when a new model becomes available.”
Wee contacted SCEE regarding this new information and were told the certification on the current kits was due to expire.
“Due to the certification on the current development and test tools expiring, wee will be stopping selling them on November 15,” said the SCEE rep. “However, wee will continue to provide loan stock for registered and new developers, until a new certified model is available.”
The news is certain to fuel ongoing PSP2 rumors.
A developer has now openly claimed to have a dev kit in-house, and a source of ours has said the handheld will be released around holiday 2011, putting it later in the year than 3DS in March.
I'm sure this is a nail looming over the PSP's coffin...
As sad as it is, I say bring on PSP2 ! And it better have two analog sticks !!

RE: SONY Discontinues Current PSP Dev Kits
Compared to other consoles I've owned in my life, this one's life span seemed so, short... I guess though, time goes faster when you're older.

well its actually been about 5/6 years hasn't it? (2004/5 wasn't it?, without checking).
That's not bad, since that's how long the gamecube and ps1 lasted. Also the gba (if you don't count the ds's with gba support) lasted no longer than that

That's right. If anything, it's lasted much longer than I thought it would.

Yeah, that was what I meant. While the PSP had the life span of an average console, the time for it still went by quickly.
