These are mainly for fun.  By the time I plan on upgrading (not going to happen before the ned of next year), everything would be completely different, it'll be Bulldozer vs Sandy Bridge.

RE: Spec Suggestions (The Core 8)
I've been told that Overclockers.co.uk are dodgy, so I'm switching to LambdaTek that seem to have better deals anyway.

Being realistic, it'll take me 2 months, probably, to get the following main parts and a bit more, the end of October the build should be complete so I need to get my part priorities right. Here's the barebones first, to get a working machine at least:

Case: Coolermaster Elite 430 -  £42*
PSU: OCZ 600W ModXStream Pro - £62*
CPU: Intel i5-760 2.80 GHz - £150*
Motherboard: ASUS P7P55D - £93
Memory: Kingston KHX1600C9D3/2G (1600MHz, DDR3) Single Stick - £37
Cooler: Titan Fenrir Xmas Edition - £37
Graphics:  ATI Radeon x1600XT (I might get one given to me)
Storage HDD: Samsung HD103SJ 1 TB 32 MB 7200RPM SATA - £46

Total Price (as of 20th August): £467 (€567)
Prices from Amazon.co.uk - * Prices from LambdaTek

4/10/10 - The spec has changed too much for this to be reference~!

I'm being a bit hasty and threw in the cooler with the laptops replacement HDD.

Ordered the case from PreisCompany on Amazon Germany too.

RE: Spec Suggestions (The Core 8)
The Titan Fenrir Xmas Edition cooler arrived a couple days ago and the first thing that came to mind was.... BEAST.

From what I can see, the thing is absolutely massive, much more so than I originally thought but I don't mind - obviously.

I'll take pics of the unboxing when I get to it but there's no need yet (though I might want to open it a bit early because I want to check what thermal paste was included - if any).

The case got shipped and hit Spain but now DHL Tracking says that it couldn't be delivered. It's been two days and I've had no status updates so yesterday I had to use an English contact form on their German site because their website for Spain couldn't recognize the tracking number - only their site for Germany did so... hopefully I can find out where the hell my case has gone.

Meanwhile, I ordered the first of a planned two RAM sticks as I'm working toward the barebones build.

No idea at all now, it depends on various factors.

I'm hoping to complete a barebones version of the build by December.

I have one of two RAM sticks, the case and cooler - I'll be ordering the PSU next.

RE: Spec Suggestions (The Core 8)
Hopefully the PSU will be in the post box today. Anyone think it would be worth considering Sandy Bridge for a Core i7-2600S?

I read an article sometime back about Intel limiting overclocking potential on normal Sandy Bridge CPUs (letting only K models overclock).

Could be old news and no longer accurate, but if it is true, you're probably better off with your current plans, since you plan on overclocking.

RE: Spec Suggestions (The Core 8)
I'm surprised that they only started blocking overclocking now.  Blocking OC easily allows them to price target their products.

Might help take out the custom coolers market too.

RE: Spec Suggestions (The Core 8)
Slowly but surely I'm getting to a barebones point (no storage HDD, optical, second RAM stick or planned Graphics card (spare card till then)).

Ordered the ASUS P7P55D-E last night and the CPU, SSD, keyboard and monitor remain~!
