Hackers, Devs, and the general (otherwise stupid) public
You know what always bother me these days? How it seems that many devs and hackers seem to be VERY uptight people (not all of them of course), that in some respect, you carefully try to not hurt their feelings or such because they will instantly fudgerage and stop developing and/or hacking. If wee take the psp scene for an example, team typhoon got their source code 'borrowed' (from what i know) and they decided to make that "bragging rights" video to troll people with because "the public asked for it."

Seriously? double you tee eff? The public is a MULTITUDE of people, ranging from idiotic to intelligent, of course you'll always have SOMEBODY that gives you a problem. It's like taking public transit everyday and expecting that everyone who gets on will be the nicest people in the world. Bus drivers deal with this poo poo day after day, but they don't leave their professions because they're paid for it, but it's also worthy to note that they are clear headed about who and what type of people get on the bus in first place.

OF COURSE, i know hackers and devs do all of this on their free time and also they do it because it's their hobby. No, they don't have any obligation to do any work hacking a system at all; BUT, i just hate it how devs react like emotional crybabies and "blame" the public for the reason they stop developing. It's annoying, i know many devs don't get enough thank you's from the people who ARE proud of their work, because usually, when someone doesn't have a problem, they won't go out of their way to go bother someone about it. You only have the trolls and other retards trolling your forums with the same spoon because THEY HAVE SOMETHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT, goddammit, don't assume that because people aren't saying thank you means that they are totally oblivious to your work. I'm very sure that many get your work from all sides of the globe and it would be very hard to get that one heartfelt thank you out in the first place.

To come to a conclusion, it's just infuriating how sometimes you'll have a dev grouping the public into one thing and calling it "bad"; it's such a stupid thing to consider that EVERYONE will be fair towards your work. There are pirates, there are people who will use your software, there will be people stealing your source, and there will also be people who are also very thankful for the work you put in. Stop disrespecting everyone and telling people that you quit because wee weren't well behaved. Hell, i know many people who would want to rip a trolls head off for insulting a dev, there are MANY people who want to help but can't, so really it's up to a dev to just deal with the bullchocolate that is apparent from not just the general public; but the world in general.

NOW, to stop work just because you're uninterested is a totally acceptable thing in my book, but stop blaming everyone because your work was disrespected by some, this outcome will always happen once you walk out your door and into the world beyond.

P.S. Need to go for now, will re-edit this post for grammar and coherence.

P.S.S. Discuss! :3

RE: Hackers, Devs, and the general (otherwise stupid) public
I'm always on EP, so I never hear of these kinds of things. ^^'

But I hear some things like the scene is dying and all that. Is this what they're talking about? Hmmm

I don't own a PSP anymore. Just a phone, and the people who hack my phone are always nice. I never hear any sort of drama because it's a hobby and they enjoy doing it. Then again my phone doesn't really have a large community as the PSP.

Hope you don't get too angry, it must be tough paying money for something that you want more out of and never get it due to fakes and drama. :\

RE: Hackers, Devs, and the general (otherwise stupid) public
Well, i have been reading up on many forums around the net about how the psp scene is "dying." Of course, being a frequent user of the psp i decided to check through why people were raging at each other and leaving. The BIGGEST complaint i heard from any dev was "The lack of disrespect for my software or from the public."

and it's driving me nuts! The sheer ignorance is mind blowing.

So, i decided to voice my opinions here on EP :P

«--- is a hacker/dev

I know personally when people don't appreciate my work, I don't feel compelled to work on it
screw you... you didn't like my work anyway I'm not giving you free poo poo

mmmm
Also personally as a hacker... I have often dreamed of being omnipotent... and being accepted/followed
when people insult me and refuse to follow me it is the opposite of this...
it plagues upon my darkest fears and upsets me :p

RE: Hackers, Devs, and the general (otherwise stupid) public
As you said, developers in these sorts of communities will often be plagued with the 'idiot' type.  You can't really compare this to bus drivers, for example, as I'd say that the majority of people the bus driver interacts with are probably nice.  Whereas you probably get exposed to a large majority of "not-nice" people if you decide to give support in these sorts of communities as a developer.
Even if they know that those interacting with them are the "bad majority", it's quite difficult to really ignore the fact that you are constantly dealing with these, and after a while, I guess at some point, you'll snap and decide to just simply leave.
And getting your code 'borrowed' can really hurt some people.  Some of these things are intellectually challenging and take hundreds of hours to make - someone taking that away can really get one worked up.

On the other hand, I've seen idiots get all protective over a 2 line script.  Go figure :P

2 lines of code can take down my schools computer network :D !
I never thought other hackers liked attention , but i guess some want to be accepted by many , so some might quit over those who criticize them or their work D:
