RE: [Roundup] All the 5.55 and 6.00 Fake Releases
Mr. Shizzy Wrote:There have been plenty of real custom firmwares released through the years.  I believe every one of the are based off DaRk_ALeX's work.   But they where real none the less...

- SE/OE/M33 - DAX
- HarleyG's cfw 0.2 - HarleyG
- LE cfw - Team Wildc*rd
- MHU cfw - Xenogears/Becus25
- GEN cfw - PSPGen (Genyus)
- 5.03 TDP-3 - TodoPSP Team
- 3.73 HX - HellDashX
- Custom Firmware 1.62 IE-D - Becus25
- Firmware 1.53 - eiffel56
- DDWRT-PSP - Ahmen (Ir Shell Author)

LOL.  I guess you would have to have been in the scene since the beginning to remember that DAX actually did a SE series of cfw, before he changed it to OE, then eventually M33.

If anyone is wondering what the tags on DAX's cfw meant:
1) SE = Special Edition
2) OE = Open Edition
3) M33 = Midnight: 33   (He finished the first official release build at 12:33 AM)

I would like to also note that Booster deserves a mention in this list, because for the longest time, everyone used his DevHook to emulate firmwares.

Back around the PSP launch, I actually was using HarleyG's 0.2 cfw for a long time.  It was based off DA's 1.50 POC.   But it was a great cfw.  It even allowed you to dual boot custom firmwares.    Also, it should be noted that HarleyG was the one who created the very first recovery menu system.   He later worked with DAX on the SE cfw series, where his recovery menu became famous.  (M33 and GEN base their recovery systems on it till this day)   And if you want proof that HarleyG coded the first recovery menu - Google 1.50 POC source code, and look through the source code and read the commenting at the top of the recovery.c file   ;)

So there is your PSP history lesson for the day folks  Madwin

I don't know - sometimes I just feel compelled to share all this information I have floating around in my head.   :P

~Shizzy

I remember SE tyvm....2.71SE was an epic firmware, i remember getting my TA-082 and being so upset that (at the time) i was never gonig to be able to play homebrew natively

Man, once again, I enter a scene right near the end of its life. The first custom firmware I ever had was...5.00 m33-6 Sadist

I just hope that somewhere, someday, a real new CFW comes around. Until then, I've got to sit through these counterfeit CFWs Erk

What's the point of releasing a beta that does nothing and only proves more that it is fake.

SchmilK Wrote:In my hopes that some random dude on the internet actually managed to make a 5.55 custom firmware, I have come across a few foreign web pages with people who SAY they have created a 5.55 custom firmware.  Of course, none of them are real, and here is the round up...To my surprise I have now found 4 and I wouldn't expect to find more, but then again, after I found the first one, I didn't think I would find 2!  So here's what I have found so far and some notes I have posted about them.

Spoiler for 5.55 TXM:
HOLY poo poo APPLES THIS IS FAKE!!!  I am trying this now...but it seems the installer only put on the following files to a 5.00m33 installation

-vsh\etc
--cptbl.dat
--index_01g.dat
--index_02g.dat
--index_03g.dat
--MyProg.exe
--unins000.dat
--unins000.exe

Poor Translation Wrote:Please ask them to support us by clicking on the AdSense blog so wee can buy new PSP and continue to develop CF

Wee note this is just a Beta, the final version is still in development.

This package installs 5.55 firmware components at various points in the flash0 of your PSP and has only been tested on a PSP 1000 with CF M33.

Wee recommend you do one dumpee of the nand of the PSP system or a direct copy of flash0 somewhere safe on your PC.

To conduct a proper installation place your PSP with the USB on flash0 and proceed to the installation of this package.

Due to lack depruebas PSP systems of other models wee are not responsible for any total or partial damage to your PSP, install this package at your own risk.
Spoiler for 5.55UoM33:
I have been translating japanese, chinese, and korean web pages all week and found a 5.55uom33-6.rar that was not password protected, but the eboot.pbp in hex eidtor was random 14010104404010401010401001010404401404014014014

The other thing that is proving to me to be fake is the fact that the encrypted/password protected rar files all over the asian boards is 191kb packed, 1.1mb unpacked per the rar details. No way a custom firmware would be that large and compress that small.

I don't understand why these people find it so fun to make fake rumors regarding custom firmware, but the lies seems to be the worst ever in the 4 years I have been a part of the psp scene. :-/

Here's some details

Spoiler for 5.55 T for 3:
5.55 T for 3 (by team three) has also been proven to be fake. Its the entire flash0 in an incorrectly decompressed/decrypted form. upon copying all files to flash0 on the slim there is not enough space for them, until I removed the dic, skype, and lftv files. After that powering on gave a green light and black screen, with no recovery menu on r trigger.  Luckily pandora was around to save me

Fake Release Thread Wrote:Dear PSP owners,
Wee are just 3 Coders who want to show our CFW 5.55, wee named it Custom Firmware 5.55 T BETA (T for 3)
Yes, its a BETA!

First:
Its no Fake, Why wee used Copy, Paste? because you can return to Recovery Menu and flash your old flash0 files back , if anything goes Wrong! (Just Test, Wee don't know about that, wee just programming C/C++, i think you guys should give it a try, wee are trieng to make a cfw since 3 Weeks, now its here!)

1.) Just go to PSP Recovery (Press R at Start)
2.) Toggle USB to flash 0
3.) Copy all folders to flash 0 (Copy, Paste, yes to all, don't worry, your
psp will start if you exit the recovery)
4.) Test, give feedback for bugs, and wee want to Release a better Version soon! (If wee have more Bugfounds, with your help!)

Note:

This CFW was tested on PSP FAT, and Slim, not PSP3000 !
On both there were CFW 5.00 M33 -6 before!

Its Important for us to know what Bugs are in the CFW, to make a better Fullversion of it, wee tested Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days, and it worked Perfect (The Problem was, OFW 5.55 readed the .prx from flash0, so noone can play a 5.55 Game on CFW PSP´s, either, the Patches for Dissidia EUR, or Soul Calibur: BD, the boot.bin and Eboot.bin wasn't safely enough...ok im Finished with writing)

Quote:Wee are working for the future of 6.00, the 5:55 is a flasher!
Have you read clearly, is not a typo, but wee are thinking of doing 6:00 PSL, it's useless to the 5.55, so wee decided to release a flasher, where flash some files to the operation of games that use the 5:55 and then , as in the noise, if 6:00 will be released tomorrow, wee will work on that, stay tuned to the channel PSL, hello Andrea1234567890

RE: [Roundup] All the 5.55 and 6.00 Fake Releases
i have noticed that a few of them are claiming to be 5.55 when there 5.50 however i must say that althought there fake they could be modified to make a proper 5.55 hybrid firmware, however looking at ErikPshat's putdown i now understand that hybrid firmwares (which is basically using 5.50 and adding bits from 5.55 will not work this time around, whereas it used to be possible) are basically impossible to make work without some serious recoding of the ipl and pre ipl.

this doesn't stop em trying, however if they were actually to put a bit of work into it and actually code a patch or recode the ipl and pre ipl then this could be made to work.

Always remember - Google is your friend :)

Yes, Dikk @ T - silly child! I looked not only IPL and the Pre-IPL.
In addition he had done stupid things, adding to official VSH PRX files from your PSP)))
If he does not even know that the files are referenced only to the PSP, in which they were installed, it LoL.

Even if he corrected the header on the right, then it would not work.

I wonder what he expected, not having the mind and knowledge?
This is just a useless PR and as a result of his kicks in disgrace.
I am in this 100% sure.

So no comment, plus there's no recovery.c in the official 1.50 PoC source code (above is src/recovery/main.c).  It was written by Dark_AleX, HarleyG just grabbed the source code and performed some modifications to it.  The dual boot thing was just launching DevHook on startup.
