Never played FFIX.

Some people told me it's poo poo, and well, I just never got to it.

I'd say give it a try. Most people who say FFIX is poo poo are often FFVII fanboys who have grown accustomed to the whole neo medieval poo poo and the whole "deep" storyline. IX is similar to older games in which its colorful, the storyline isn't always so serious, each character is stuck only with their specific abilities and you have 4 party members in battle instead of 3.

You can only really enjoy the game if you've played the NES FFs though particularly FF1. Since many of the story elements and ideas are based of those 3. You have the four chaoses making a repeat appearance, Garland shows up, one puzzle involves the retelling of Josef's story in FF2, Hilda makes an appearance, one of the airships is called Invincible... many references @_@

Maybe I'll give it a try if I have the time.

As for the NES FFs, 3 is the only one I went through. Started playing FF1 some time (quite a long time) ago, but never really played that through.

I pretty much played the FFs in this order. 6 » 5 » 4 (never finished that I think) » 7 » started 8, finished 2 years later. 3 was sometime in the 8 period. It's probably another reason why I liked 6 the best.

Also going to start playing 10 sometime on emulator.

As for the NES FFs, 3 is the only one I went through. Started playing FF1 some time (quite a long time) ago, but never really played that through.

If you don't have the time to do the grind in FF1 just play the GBA version, easy difficulty in the PSX version or the PSP version.
