Mozilla Fennec
I came across a little something today. Very little. Its called mozilla Fennec and is a version of Firefox built for handheld PC's, Smartphones PDA's and other devices of that ilk.

It is currently available in alpha version for Nokia Maemo based N800/N810 devices, but will also be available for Windows Mobile/CE on release. Work is also underway for Symbian OS based mobile phones.

If you want to try it out you can download it from HERE with builds being available for Linux, Mac and Win32 based systems. The Win32 version works fine under XP so you can try it out on your computer too.

This isn't really 'News' as Fennec has been under development for some time and hasn't yet been officially released. Its still in interesting little something though...

EDIT:

Just found an article about Fennec HERE

RE: Mozilla Fennec
Works under XP?

As a handheld browser you'd think it'd be quite minimal..

RE: Mozilla Fennec
Seems so... I can't change its proxy settings meaning I can't use it in school, where I currently am, so i won't be able to give much of a review until I get home. about:config works but i can't change the values within. Still, its an Alpha release so you can expect bugs and limitations.

RE: Mozilla Fennec
hmm, I got it out of boredom.

Interesting 'drag this way' concept it uses.

Websites didn't display properly on it after I maximized it, which just left big gaps on the sides lol.

For some reason it can't even start Acid2 so..

Woah! It scored 93/100 on Acid3!

And that's with my Firefox 3.0.5 scoring a meazly 71/100! Seems Mozilla have been working hard on that.

Firefox was quicker, but for Fennec Alpha 2 it's very promising, it showed some excellent results (esp. in Acid3) I just hope that the machines it's supposed to run on will do well with it.

Plugins Test
--------------
It detected Plugins that were installed automatically, which was nice.

Flash - While I got audio, I got no Video while trying out YouTube. Veoh worked fine, some Flash Objects were displaced but only in Shrink Fit view, going into full zoom it was fine..

Adobe Acrobat - Didn't work, but to be honest I expected it to work.

Quicktime - Weirdly enough, just like YouTube the display didn't work, but the Audio did.

and finally...

Lol, I just tried running it on IE (I've lost my pen drive so I don't have Portable Firefox on me). IE scored 5... and then crashed... It can't even display the New Reply page properly!
