I could be wrong but doesn't Windows Update normally install drivers for you?

Do any devices in Device Manager report as malfunctioning? (Small yellow alert sign with exclamation mark)
Also, do your SoundMAX Drivers come with extra software? It would be interesting to see if it can detect speakers being connected.

Ensure that your Wave volume is turned up.
Also, again, are the speakers connected to the right ports?

Everything's not muted yet no sounds. It is connected at the green port, the one in the middle. I'm thinking its a hardware problem.
