Dunno.  People have already found ways to gain kernel access in Vista - one of the things Microsoft was trying to stop, lol.  Soon (if not already), kernel mode rootkits will be available and ready for Vista :P

Anyways, I checked the above - tis interesting.  Renaming the file still didn't allow UMDStreamComposer to start (probably cause I don't have MSVC7 runtime files installed), but the error that popped up was different.  Corrupting the PE header caused Vista to not load the program at all :O  Renaming a random EXE to UMDStreamComposer.exe didn't stop it from working.

what would a kernel mode rootkit allow us to do?
or is it something for programmers/developers?

Primarily used to hide viruses and other stuff from people :P
