Threaded Mode | Linear Mode

I've spent many hours on this, now i know if there is a ttxt, vobsub or even sonic scenarist subtitles in a MP4 file, it is not recognised.

tried Japanese PSN videos, no luck there too.

also created one with Nero Recode - no go.
tried Adobe Premiere so it could be DVD-like - not even played on PSP.

i just need one example and the last hope i have is now Japan/Brazil 1seg broadcasts.

still, noone knows really about UMD videos. while ripping, video/audio streams can be copied, but subtitle stream cannot.

and, there is no such thing as just "PNG subtitles"
but in example, sonic scenarist subs use PNG files. this is not a DVD/UMD standard so it's not recognised by PSP.
so what is that standard? I'm stuck as i have no documentation nor example files.

It's because it isn't standard - UMDs are really Sony's proprietary stuff so they can really do what they like. Your best bet is probably Sony's UMD Tools.

And I don't think you can get soft subs in the XMB player - at least, I haven't heard anything about it. TTXT is the only subtitle format accepted in MP4, and the PSP just ignores that.

actually, it's possible to have vobsub in MP4 even it's not standard.
my point is, UMDs have .mps files, i cannot demux all streams from them, if a 1seg tuner records, i don't think PSP would create pmf or mps files (as they're not supported in MS part of XMB video player) it would create AVIs or MP4s which are really easy to examine.

i have created videos with one video/audio stream and many sub streams with UMD tools, but it produces MPS/PMF files.

god, probably just learning the language is much easier than this :p
I'm going to give up, but seeing that greyed out "Subtitle Options" button kills me...
in UMD video control panel, there are "Menu", "Angle Options", "UMD Volume" buttons. they don't exist in MS video control panel. everything is clear here, i know that i won't be able to use them in MS videos (and volume button does a simple job, not dependent on the movie)
but there's a "Subtitle Options" button in both UMD and MS control panel! so i assume it's used in both...

Well actually, you could stick anything in an MP4 - the actual file format doesn't really stop you...

MPEG-2 PS - mplayer can demux them.

Considering the camera makes MJPEG AVIs - I'd guess that. Though IDK how subtitles get in there. Even if the PSP accepts subs in AVI, I don't think you'd really want to be using MJPEG >_>

Just use PMPlayer AdVanCe if you must have soft subtitles.

i couldn't stick a .SUP (dvd subtitle format, i really hope they will work) file inside an MP4.

i know MJPEGs are no go, but still i want to test that feature, u know

I was just referring to the file structure itself. Chances are, your muxing application won't do it for you (but theoretically, it could be possible to write one which does).

I guess that's a problem then... Since it's probably PNG, you could maybe search for PNG file signatures, but it's slow and time consuming and really sucks.

I guess you could try asking the dev to add those features (though I wouldn't have my hopes up that much). Or if you're really keen, add them yourself =P

Might get better results if you try asking a Japanese board or something, if you want a sample clip I guess.
Otherwise I don't think wee can do much here.

as I've finally stopped working on this, i wanted to share my last findings:

non UMD "subtitles options" are only used in the videos which are created using 1seg tuner, only usable in Brazil and Japan.
1seg broadcast is always encrypted, has DRM.
PSP can show these videos, obviously, but when recording, it records with DRM.
so it's not possible to share or examine(!!) these videos. no way i can decrypt it so i gave up.

Interesting. Theoretically possible to decrypt, however you probably will never be able to encrypt anything, so examining the files probably wouldn't yield much either >_>
