Square Enix to acquire Eidos
One of the last UK publishing houses will come under foreign ownership next month as shareholders in Eidos voted with an overwhelming majority to accept the bid by Square Enix.

The Final Fantasy publisher, which offered 32 pence per share in February under the SQEX holding company, will gain control of Eidos and its constituent parts after the publisher's shares are delisted, which is estimated to happen in late April.

At a court meeting over 85 per cent of the shares held in the company were represented in votes cast to accept the bid, and at the subsequent EGM the motion required to implement the acquisition was also approved.

Among the properties that Square Enix will take control of are the Tomb Raider, Hitman and Championship Manager franchises, although there's no word as yet on what changes the new owners will make to the company's structure.

I wonder if this means that Square Enix will now expand into a wider genre of gaming, and more importantly, PC gaming. Though I am not overly fond of Eidos games (the exception being Thief), Square Enix may have a significant impact on their game development.

Hmm, Square-Enix-Eidos?

Should they just shorten it to SquEE?

I suspect Eidos will remain independant, just published/licensed through S-E

Square and Enix were similar enough for a merger to work, but Eidos are very much a brand name they won't want to disband

Or so i reason...if they kill hitman....IfErkErkErk

Probably... its going to be the same as Bungie being taken over by Microsoft Studios. It is plausible. Eidos is a large studio, so I doubt their existence will vanish (example Gameloft and Ubisoft).

90% of Enix management staff was changed. So maybe something similar, if not entirely, unlikely may occur.
