Starting a new job with tech support
I recently started working with a company that specifically does tech support for hospitals. They set up networks, troubleshoot all hardware and software problems, manage updates, etc. Pretty basic on many accounts, such as reattaching a keyboard key, installing software to manage patients, put XP on a few computers, had to troubleshoot a network adapter. Most of the time it is minor stuff, but even after having only worked for 3 days, I'm already learning things I might not have discovered otherwise, such as setting up a server, installing a huge as hell UPS for an entire building, and some other stuff. If I continue down this career path, this will definitely be one of my biggest stepping stones, since they actually gave me a chance.

They have me at $10 an hour, while I'm in "evaluation". I'm only working 15 hours a week, then another 12 at my other job. If they decide to take me on for more hours, I'll probably quit my other job, as they would be increasing my pay to $15 an hour. Hope it all works out ^^

This one speaks the truth. What if as a final request a dying patient asked for some good old fashioned hershey kisses but the aforementioned network adapter refused to work in its most needed moment?

RE: Starting a new job with tech support
Spent 3 hours removing spyware, trojans, and viruses from one PC. 5 BSODs, ad 11 unremoved rootkits later, I still have probably another couple days ahead of me to finish it up with help from forums. double you tee eff are these doctors thinking? This guy was my dad's old clinic partner, and it is ridiculous the number of viruses and malware he has accumulated in just a 2 year span. Hasn't touched his anti-virus software (of which 3 were fake) since 2007. Then his desktop is made up of the most random poo poo, from all sorts of different users (all his kids).

Seriously, some people should not be allowed to even touch a computer. It is such a shame to see them treated so badly :(

RE: Starting a new job with tech support
Lol, I'm glad I stay away from most peoples' computers.  Only ever around computers owned by people around my age, so generally a higher level of technical literacy.

Enjoy your work!
