decent/ cheap mp3/4 player
Has anyone got a decent mp4/3 player that is cheap that they could recommend? I was looking at the Kubik Edge (generic Chinese thing so I guess alot of players are the same with a different printed name) but I don't see many happy endings with it.
I Want one but I don't need one so badly that I will pay Ipod kind of money... basically because I don't have that kind of money at the moment!
Please help if you know of anything I could get.
Cheers!

I've got the newer version of that. The NWZ-A818. Plays MP3, WMA, WAV, M4A on the audio side and MP4 and 3GP on the video side. It has 8GB of flash storage, amazing battery life, is tough as nails and sounds absolutely amazing. Even better than an iPod G5 running Rockbox (and that sounds good.) The supplied headphones aren't the usual cheap rubbish that comes with MP3 players. It comes with a pair of really nice Sony in-ear buds that sound lovely. They're a little uncomfortable but you soon get used to it.
I got mine from Amazon for £80 in March last year and I've had little trouble with it. Playlists are a pain but I sorted that with a little piece of software called Walkman MTP. Also it won't charge from most mains USB chargers, although it has no troubles with the official Apple iPod charger.
Another recommendation is the Creative ZEN. I seriously considered getting one a while ago and I'm still kinda considering it now. I've seen one in action and the only real problem I had with it was the glossy finish. It collected fingerprints like nobodies business. It's avaiable with capacities up to 32GB and it has an SDHC slot. There are 8GB ones on Amazon for about the same price as the Sony.

I just saw the Philips gogear players. They seem pretty reasonable as do the reviews on them... does anyone have one of these or what do ye think of them?
I'm not sure what one yet though but i think the SA3285

From past experience with Philips players I've found their firmware a little buggy. That was a long time ago though so they may have whipped their programmers into shape by now...

this is what i have and it literally plays all audio formats and support micro sdhc cards
theres also a 4gb version
A friend of mine has one and he loves it. I've played around with it and it really is a nice piece of kit. The interface isn't as polished as the Zen or the Sony but it is still a very nice player. The others have much nicer screen's as well. The Sansa just looks washed out and grainy compared to the others.
Something else about the Zen. Make sure you get a new one not a second hand one. Some of the early batches had very buggy firmware meaning they'd freeze constantly. If you do get one update the firmware immediately to the current version to fix all the bugs.

RE: decent/ cheap mp3/4 player
Late, but depends on your needs? Since you said MP3 or MP4 (they typically refer to audio only or video+audio) Do you need video playing capabilities? (IMO, PSP is still one of the best video players)
Cheap Chinese players, IMO, aren't that bad. I had one (which I bricked cause I was stupid at the time). THe interface is a little clunky and takes a little while to respond, but IMO, a slightly harder to learn interface is a small price to pay - you get used to it after a while. Responsiveness isn't terribly big an issue unless you're trying to browse through a large collection of music. The player came with radio+mic as well.
Again, really depends on your needs I guess.
