How Well Does Softmod works with HDD?
Hey guys,
Well I just got a v7 PS2 for $50 from a friend. It's kinda old, the DVD drive is iffy, but it works. I did my research like I did with every other console I own and I saw the MCR exploit. Sounded easy to me enough, just buy the tools, and do the work on the computer.. No biggie. Moving on, I also saw that you can buy hdd's that could fit in the back of the PS2 where the Network Adapter should be.. Make life easier :D
So I was wondering... (If I get the hdd and just use it for music, games, and videos)
How well would the softmod exploit work with a hard drive?
Do I need to keep using the PSX Trigger to launch the exploit?
In which ways can you transfer stuff between the computer and hdd?
Does the hdd goes into the adapter slot without me having to open the PS2 or buy anything else for that matter.
Any PS2-External Device connectivity? I know that you can charge stuff via USB, and the hdd external. Anything else?
Is there any way to rip a CD/DVD directly to the hdd?
Any way to make PSX game saves actually read/save on a PS2 MCR?
I am asking a lot right?
Thanks,

RE: How Well Does Softmod works with HDD?
yh...
* soft mod will work fine with hdd as long as you have the right elf file.
* you need to use the psx triger all the time.
* yes there are ways you can transfer computer to hdd its done by ftp.
* hdd has to be attached to a network adaptor.
* yes there is external connectivity but it is rubbish.
* yes there is a way to rip cd/dvd to hdd using hd loader elf.
* i don't know about the psx game saves

RE: How Well Does Softmod works with HDD?
ps2 needs a network adapter to work with hd
hard drives are normal 3.5inch ide's
and i know you can rip dvd's directly to the hd or to the pc via the network adapters lan

RE: How Well Does Softmod works with HDD?
1. Do I need to keep using the PSX Trigger to launch the exploit? = Yes
2. In which ways can you transfer stuff between the computer and hdd? = You can hook the hd up to your computer and install back ups that way, or you can put real PS2 games (Not burnt) in the drive and HDloader will copy the game to the HD.
3. Does the hdd goes into the adapter slot without me having to open the PS2 or buy anything else for that matter. = The HD goes into the expansion bay of the ps2, then the network adapter goes on the HD outside of the expansion bay like so- http://www.hdloader.org/images/howto_HDloader_5.jpg
4. Any PS2-External Device connectivity? I know that you can charge stuff via USB, and the hdd external. Anything else? = HD advaned and HD extreme can use External usb drive but it does not run as good, or as fast as HDloader.
5. Is there any way to rip a CD/DVD directly to the hdd? Yes, see #2
6. Any way to make PSX game saves actually read/save on a PS2 MCR? I think so, ill have to look into it for you.
7. I am asking a lot right? It's ok :P

RE: How Well Does Softmod works with HDD?
you know that you could just burn games for now and use cogswap.elf to boot them. Then you wouldn't have to get the HD right away. There for just making it so you have to get codebreaker or AR max, a PS1/PSX game and your ready.

RE: How Well Does Softmod works with HDD?
Yes, the cogswap elf works fine, grab an old copy of Chaos Legion (its a HUGE game) and use that to swap with. You need a game bigger than the one yer swapping, or so I''m told. Exploitstaion.com has a lot of great ps2 tuts. Also, didn't click on yer link to the hard drive, but I've found Maxtor drives fit just fine, the WD drives have the power and data connectors just a bit off to fit the network adapter, no matter how you try, you'll never get a wd drive hooked up, at least not any I've tried.
