The results seems to strongly favor K-Lite, for the people who do use codec packs. (I kinda expected that though).
I tried K-Lite once in the past. But then reverted back to Storm.
Some reasons being that K-Lite uses ffdshow for h264. Storm includes CoreAVC (is that even legal?). Guess which one is faster. 1/2 the videos I play are h264.
And something less important, but bugged me, I had problems with huffyuv with K-Lite. It says it includes a VfW huffyuv codec, but avisource() returns an error saying it can't find a decoder
. (Although I can always decode using directshowsource().)
But otherwise, K-Lite supports a lot more stuff. (although you're likely never going to encounter any of these obscure formats.)
Edit:
FFVH (ffdshow's Huffyuv) didn't decode because it was disabled. :\
Lololol. I fail so hard back then.
