You had your house constructed? Is that generally cheaper or more expensive?
My mom is a realtor and in my village a lot of people have started building.

Different houses take different amounts of times to build. Here it's about 3-6 months usually.

For the price though I can say with confidence that building is more expensive. You have to hire an architect, buy all the materials, etc. ..

Wee bought our house. Cheaper.
this is a cookie cutter community so the builder and everything are union workers and only building in this subdivison for now.

everything is included and compared ot the 10-20 year old used houses around here which go for 250-300,000 wee got a 'borrow' of a deal.  And the warranty company they deal with is a 3rd party provider who hasn't had a claim in over 10 years!  So wee're pretty excited.

When my parents did a custom house 15 years ago it was a nightmare because my mom played the general contractor and hired every person that worked...and then some eople got pissed off and left the job and ugh..it sucked..but this is NOTHING like that situation.

Ugh...now i want it to be october asap.
*packing bags*
Where's the guestroom?  If ya have any kind of decent inter webs, I'm crashin' thar.

And congratz!
congrats and wishing u good luck
The guest rooms are the basement, the backyard, or for the more conventional visitor, bedroom #2 or bedroom #3.

dang..one day closer..

Just get a decent job (which you are most likely capable of doing) and it wouldn't be that hard. To get a small house, like 2-3 bedroom, it shouldn't take that much. If you lets say can get a net saving (income - tax - expenditure) of $30,000 per year, it'll only take like 7-10 years? If you get a good job, depending on your personal situation, you should easily be able to add more than $30,000 to your coffers every year. Wouldn't take that long, especially if you can borrow a part of it from the bank if you choose so.

But yeah, house prices in Australialand has pretty much 3-4x in prices in that price rise. Our house has pretty much doubled in worth. 0.44mil to about estimated 0.8mil? (wee didn't buy right at the start, otherwise it'll be more).
Our house, at purchase time was around $550k (about 12km from the city).  It's now worth around $700k, after the ~2 years wee've lived here for.  And according to predictions, this rate of growth isn't going to slow down any time soon.  You see, Canberra isn't exactly a developing place, so prices don't go up much there.

Not too much a difference.  Just parents weren't satisfied with what was available.
So Schmilk, if my parents ever get too insane with the nazi thing, can I crash at your place? Hihi

WOOOOHOOOOOOO  its becoming more real now
SchmilK, isn't that a lot of rooms for the number of people living in that house? Unless of course, you plan to invite everyone from EP that's over 18. I can see that getting a bit crazy.

Either way, the house looks like it's coming along quite nicely.
