i have recently noticed a great love of metal music and it seems strange as i hated the stuff not too long ago. i think it may have been when i started drums it began as i started listening to heavy music for beats but i think it's more than that. really it was just a case of listening to things on kerrang until i liked that sort of music. metal is such an awesome genre and it doesn't even need to have reason to be because it kicks everything else's ass.
i know you lot love metal, tell us why you think it is so cool.
because it is so hard hitting
it makes me want to just punch babies
actually i have truthfully never heard any other genre classed awesome. Metal is so epic its used to describe stuff
I know exactly how you feel
For the longest time, i was into punk music
Then i moved onto softrock (all the while hating metal, and all metal at that for some reason, it was jsut a row to me)
Then i moved onto heavier rock (suddenly, metal, although still disliked by me, was starting to appeal)
Then, i started listening to symphonic metal (hell, i still do, its awesome stuff)
Then it was power metal (proper stuff, not chocolatety wannabee "i can't play live" dragonforce)
And now, i listen mostly to symphonic, power, and normal metal
Im still not a fan of death metal, or black metal, but they sound better than i used to think they do
If you stop and listen to it, you realise that there is something to the "row", and its actually really good
The real reason behind loving metal... is because it pushes the envelope. It gets your adrenaline pumping, your working faster, and you can't help but to continue that way.
The best example of this is the first two tracks of Strapping Young Lad's SYL ~ or if you're a real metal head ~ City

Heavy Metal.. :) Listen to that and you'll forget Metal.
I dunno, the best metal subtype for me is symphonic, its jsut so epic its unbelivable...the sense of awe, and raw power that comes out of some symphonic metal songs is just unbelievable
Why is metal so awesome? As in metalgear? As in me? I dunno, I was just born that way.

And while it's not my favorite, it's definitely a very versatile genre. The only other genre that's as versatile, in my opinion, is electronic music as both can cover a very wide range of styles.
