Who here has dabbed in poetry?
A romantic way of proposing to a female (or in some cases males I guess), a way of expressing our emotions or a way to fight "it" (whatever "it" may be), amongst other things.
I'm trying to get a bit better at poetry and I would like suggestions, I haven't read that much poetry in my life, but I've read some...
Anyway, I'd like suggestions. I know GlaG knows poetry. <3
One Name.
Leonard Cohen.
Master of poetry.
I write poetry all the time... about whatever I am feeling at the time. It feels good to get it out on the paper.... but thing is I usually don't follow any structure. Freestyle is my favourite.

I can't be troubled with poetry all the time, but sometimes I do sit down and start to write what comes to mind. I also like freestyle. I will PM you a poem I wrote, the only other person who has seen it here in GlaG.
MetalGear08 Wrote:You
You were a mistake.
You were not wanted.
You were beaten.
You were burned.
You bled.
You cried.
You sobbed.
You ached.
You got older.
You got colder.
You got empty.
You got angry.
You changed.
You experienced happiness.
You sank deeper into darkness
You danced with the Devil.
You are still cold.
You are still human.
You are still flesh.
But you are still hoping.

Here CesarAndreu.... this is one I wrote about a year ago.....
"It’s hard, it’s unknown, it’s unconventional,
emotion keeps us alive, emotion leads us to die,
intention blind sighted, causes unmentionable,
a past full of life, a bleak future spotted from the corner of my eye,
the brain, the nervous center, autopilot control,
the mystery of time, encoded by body but not mind,
as genetics replicate incorrectly, wee grow old,
technology new, becomes obsolete in short time,
It’s easy, it’s obvious, it’s highly presidential,
the public is occupied, with minuscule finds,
the minority overpowering, the majority quite menial,
I want to break free, but am trapped in a bind,
Nothing is mine, but my mind,
Even that I can only control, in moderation,
With this useless knowledge, am I still being selfish,
while peering upon man’s trivial approach to domination,
this world is driving me blind"
Kind of a sad poem, really pessimistic by my view.

that is true... I was in a sad time when I wrote it... but it came straight from my soul.
The title is 'Bleak Future'
I've dabbled in some haikus before in english
here's a couple
Christmas bankruptcy
he lies in the street
'borrowed' from the place he loves
the cold taking him
Death
he lurks among us
waiting for his chance to strike
he will miss no one
(the first one came when wee were asked to write a poem about christmas. mine was the only one in the class that talked of the dark side of it)
T.S. Eliot is probably my fav. poet, Wasteland and "Hollow Men" are both equally gripping.
If you can get you're hands on the recording where T.S. Eliot read Hollow Men himself, I suggest
you do so. It's terrifying. Poe and Lewis Caroll are also decent picks if you're in the mood for
poetry.
