DOWNGRADING/UPGRADING TIPS:
Before any upgrade/downgrade, a few things to keep in mind,
Charge ur battery so its 100% full, AC power plugged in when u run the upgrade/downgrade, backup any valuable files/savedata from ur psp, restore psp to default settings, format memstick before coping files to psp, remove any umd from ur psp, read readme file, NEVER TURN OFF PSP DURING DOWNGRADE/UPGRADE!

DOWNGRADING:
This must be done to install custom firmware, custom firmware removes Sony's restrictions, such as playing iso's and running homebrew (unsigned programs). Downgrading will typically bring ur psp back to 1.5 firmware, from there u install custom firmware. To use any of these ways, download files and read readme's.

There are several ways, all depending on ur current firmware version.
The following are 4 fat(old) psp's, not slim(ONLY way for the slim is pandora.)

2 - Lumines UMD (unpatched) - can only be used if u have 3.50 and lower
http://calo-hacks.com/downloads/downgrad...grader.zip
http://rapidshare.com/files/39625041/3.50update..zip

3 - GTA;LCS UMD (unpatched)(has update version 2.0 on it) - can only be used if u have 3.03 firmware or lower
http://rapidshare.com/files/15133909/3.0...grader.zip

http://pspupdates.qj.net/How-to-find-a-H.../aid/58178   To check if ur copy is unpatched...

4 - 2.8 easy downgrader- can only be used if u have 2.8 firmware or lower
http://calo-hacks.com/downloads/downgrad...nGrade.zip

And for those of you stuck on 3.11, heres the answer!

PANDORA:
1 - Pandora Battery and Magic memstick

Pandora...
-Can downgrade/upgrade/unbrick ANY psp, slim or fat, regardless of firmware version.
-Is a combination of a psp battery and a memory stick
-The battery is converted into "service" mode, what this means is that when battery is inserted into psp, it makes the psp read/load/boot from memory stick instead of internal flash.
-There are soft modded batteries that are converted using homebrew(software) by another CF psp or hard modded batteries where u open up the battery itself and lift a pin on the circuit board. Both of which do the same thing....
-Batteries can be soft and hard modded and then converted back to normal if done right....
-The memory stick contains the new firmware/software, DC = Despertar del Cementerio, which is loaded with "service/pandora" battery.
- two main versions of DC:
-DCv3=flashes 3.71-2M33 to ANY psp regardless of firmware
-DCv4=flashes 3.80-5M33 to ANY psp regardless of firmware
-DCv5=flashes 3.90-3M33 to ANY psp regardless of firmware

-To make battery you must meet one of these requirements.....
---Have access to a psp that has 2.80 firmware or lower
---Have access to a psp that has custom firmware or 1.5
---Buy a Datel Tool Batttery already converted to service mode battery
---Buy Pandora battery off EBAY (watch out 4 scammers!)
---Send ur battery to someone on these forums to make battery for u.
---Hard mod battery (open it up and lift/remove Pin5 from processing chip. Can be dangerous, wreck the battery, and may be perminent. Can only be done to certain batteries.)

HARD MODDED BATTERY TUT'S
read tut, hell, read them all, very good info.....the more u know the better......ONLY use something that is plastic so u don't short battery out.....
HARD modding batteries, the fun stuff....
Read tuts!
Only use plastic whatever to open case, NEVER metal cause to can slip and short out the battery and then its garbage.

MY FAVORITE ULTIMATE PANDORA(UPMS Sapphire V3)
(Note, This is 4 psp's that have custom firmware installed )
(note, open flash0 and delete "dic" folder to ensure u have enough free space for UPMS...)
download this UPMS INSTALLER
http://www.upms-project.com/modules.php?...it&lid=140
then download all 3 eboots and rename.
(Make sure u have file extentions turned on!)
download 3.80 eboot and rename it to 380.pbp
http://www.psp-hacks.com/download.php?id=1377
download 3.71 eboot and rename it to 371.pbp
http://www.psp-hacks.com/download.php?id=1259
download 1.5 eboot and rename to 150.pbp
http://www.psp-hacks.com/download.php?id=4

-extract the UPMS file listed above to ur pc and read readme
-format memcard with Custom Firmware PSP
-copy both 150.pbp and 371.pbp and 380.pbp to root of memstick.
-copy cso file to ur iso folder on ur psp memstick
-put umd in psp or ensure u have umd mode/iso loader set to SONY NP9660
-run cso program from xmb>game>memstick
-Install the 3rd IPL, sleep fix in step 1.
-install full program(slowest) in step 3.
-then goto step 2 and convert battery.
-make sure to backup/create battery EEPROM(this is to reconvert ur battery back to normal should u convert it)
-then, step 4, install all but maxsafe for the fully loaded ultimate pandora.
-don't install maxsafe in step 4 due to it causing bricks(read readme for more detail)...

heres a tut, thanks to Demonchild and one thanks to azzazil if this doesn't make sense to u and u need pictures...

Charge your battery to above 75-100% first, PSP's won't boot if the battery is too low no matter what.
When you insert the battery your power light should be Green.

USAGE
(All usage instructions are in ptf files from first download...)
If DCv3 is active:
With PSP off and battery removed,
1) Hold Left Trigger
2) Insert your Pandora battery, Ultimate Loader will boot.
NOTE: If you have the power switch in the Hold position (down) and insert Pandora's battery while holding Left Trigger it will boot directly to DCv3, but don't forget to put hold switch back to normal otherwise your button presses will not work.
If you have either Hellcat, Joker, or are unsure which folder is active:
With PSP off and battery removed,
1) Push power switch down to Hold.
2) Hold Left trigger
3) Insert Pandora's battery, The slim will boot then turn off.
4) Remove Pandora's battery
5) Put power switch back to normal (turn hold off)
6) Hold left trigger
7) Insert Pandora's battery, this will now display the Ultimate Loader menu. From here you can launch DCv3.
quoted from OverfiendX

MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP YOUR NAND.
Use any of the tools provided by UPMS to backup and recover your nand.
Goto tools menu in ULoader and select Elf Menu. select nandmanager. Press [] to backup and X to restore.
This allows you to dump your NAND and restore from one of multiple bin files.
Your backup will be named nand-dump.bin and stored in the nanddump folder on ms0
You can rename them to what you like just keep .bin as the extension.
OR
Backup your NAND when you get into despertar cementerio v3! by Pressing the [ ] button
NAND DUMP TUT...

NOTE: ONLY RESTORE NAND BACKUP TO PSP AS LAST CASE SCENARIO AND KNOW WHAT UR DOING!!THIS IS NOT FOR NOOBS.
NEVER, NEVER FLASH ANOTHER PSP'S NAND DUMP!!

IMPORTANT
Now that u have custom M33 firmware, u need to set ur iso loader and boost ur cpu speeds...
to do so, enter vsh menu (press home button from xmb for 3.52 users and select button from xmb for 3.71+ users) then scroll down and set umd mode/iso loader to SONY NP9660(The Best!)
and, boost ur cpu speeds in game and xmb to 333/166, this will not harm ur psp(only uses battery up a little faster)(Wifi card can become hot if used for long periods @ this speed)
Also, format memstick to delete unneeded install files and create folder structure...
All praise goes to our Hero DARK ALEX, For his outstanding creation of SE/OE/M33 firmwares.
Also, read Demonchild's tut on M33 firmware to understand more.
http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=125380

RECOVERY MENU:
To enter Recovery mode, turn ur psp totally off (not sleep mode), now turn on and hold R trigger at the same time, this is ur recovery menu.
-Now sometimes, doing upgrades causes bugs, to fix, i recommend everyone who does a upgrade to "delete flash1 and reset settings" from recovery.
-Goto Advanced and select "delete flash1 and reset settings"
-Also in Recovery i recommend u boost ur CPU speed to max for both options.
-Also in Recovery is Configuration folder, make changes so it looks like this:
   skip sony logo - enabled
   hide corrupt icons - enabled
game folder homebrew - 3.xx(depending on firmware) or 1.5 for homebrew(fat only and u need to install the 1.5 kernal addon patch for each different CF)
autorun program @ -disabled (this is used to recover back to 1.5 or run a eboot if u mess up ur psp, 3.71M33 and under CF, does not work on 3.80M33 or 3.90M33)
umd mode - SONY NP9660/M33 Driver (u don't need a umd in anymore, and it plays any iso/cso)

VSH MENU:
Besides Recovery menu, there is VSH menu, u can reach the vsh menu by pressing the "home" button from xmb for 3.52M33 users or by pressing "select" button from xmb for 3.71+M33 users. The VSH menu is just a quick shortcut of ur Recovery menu(if u can't access it, goto Recovery>Configeration and make sure vsh menu is enabled).

DUMPING UMD 2 ISO:
To dump a umd to a iso the easy way, u need M33 custom firmware, put umd in, from xmb goto vsh menu, then change usb device to UMD disc, then go back to xmb, then scroll left to usb connection, connect usb cord, and connect to computer, ur usb folder should appear, if not find it as a removable device in "my computer" and open it, u will  see a file called umd9660.iso, copy this file to ur computer, when done, exit usb connection, go back to VSH menu, change back usb device to memory stick, then exit and connect usb again, rename the umd9660.iso file to the proper game name(keep name length less than 20 characters) and copy this iso file to ur ISO folder. Done

PLAYING VIDEO ISO's
To play video iso's, copy iso into ms0:\iso\video\ then, goto vsh menu from xmb by pressing "home" button for 3.52M33 and "select" for 3.71M33+.
Scroll down to "iso video mount" and mount iso, exit vsh menu and goto game>memstick and run movie...(MUST have umd in)

GAMES/ISO'S:
A few reminders for playing iso/cso games:
-You must have Custom Firmware(OE/SE/M33) or 1.5(using dev-hook) on ur psp
-Make sure gamename is less than 20 characters
-New games require higher firmware, upgrade to the latest CF
-Iso/cso files go in ISO folder(eg. ms0:\ISO\wipeout.iso)
-U must have a folder called "game" in psp folder (ms0:\psp\game) make one if u must or format memcard with psp to create folder structure...
-make sure u have set iso loader/umd mode to SONY NP9660(best) or M33(also good), this is found in recovery>config or in VSH menu...
-make sure ur memstick is not fake.
-some prx's(such as screenshot.prx) can interfer with loading iso's
-some "backups/iso's" are corrupt, try a different copy
-if u get the 80020148 error loading a game, enter recovery menu>advanced and format flash1 and reset settings, then reset ur iso loader and try again..
-To play ps1 games, take the folder that has the ps1 eboot in it and copy that folder to GAME folder (ms0:\psp\game) (eg. ms0:\psp\game\starcraft\eboot.pbp)

PS1 GAME INFO:
Useful ps1 info links.
-To play ps1 games, take the folder that has the ps1 eboot in it and copy that folder to GAME folder (ms0:\psp\game) (eg. ms0:\psp\game\starcraft\eboot.pbp)(custom firmware only)
-Any Customizations your psp has - custom bootsounds, custom fonts, custom gameboots, etc.  for example:  custom bootsounds, are known to screw with the ps1 emulator in custom firmware versions sometimes.
-Leave the opening_plugin.rco alone or ps1 games might not work....

MOST COMMON ERRORS
80020148 - Unsupported PRX type | This error also seems to appear when you are running an iso with a fake mem.
-Upgrade to a newer custom firmware, or u are using official firmware and u need to downgrade then install CF.
-If not, it is probably a config error/bug and 99% of the time it will be fixed if u "delete flash1 and reset settings" in Recovery>Advanced.
-Often occurs when upgrading from a older OE/SE to M33.
-can also be bad/corrupt iso
-can be from not having 1.5 addon installed when running some homebrew(fat only)
-can be fake memcard.
-also occurs with older SE/OE firmware if u have umd mode set to M33 driver(fixed by changing to sonynp9660 or put in a umd)
-also can be fixed by upgrading to 3.52M33 from older CF.
but most of the time it is a upgrade bug in flash1.
80020321 - Ran a game that doesn't support NO-UMD* (DAX FW ONLY!)
-If u get this error, change iso loader(in recovery or vsh menu) to SONY NP9660 or put a UMD in, ANY umd....but SONY NP9660 iso loader is best.
8002014C - Ran kxploited homebrew without Homebrew enabled firmware.
-enter recovery, enter config, set game kernal to 1.5, exit.(fat psp's only)(make sure u have 1.5 kernal addon installed for the newer 3.xxM33 CF)
-error occurs when noobs try to run 1.5 kernal homebrew with official sony firmware...or a slim(which doesn't support 1.5 kernal either).
-error occurs when running homebrew from wrong folder (eg. put homebrew in GAME371 folder instead of GAME or GAME150 or vice-versa)
8001002 - putting the POPS EBOOT in the wrong folder
-To play ps1 games, take the folder that has the ps1 eboot in it and copy that folder to GAME folder(eg. ms0:\psp\game\Resident Evil\eboot.pbp CF only)
-make sure u have a eboot.bin along with a boot.bin in ur finished product........
-U put the eboot.pbp in wrong folder..............
800200D9 -  failed to allocate the memory block
-to fix, disable screenshot PRX or equivilent PRX's....
80010002
-bad rip of game, missing eboot.bin file...
-using a video umd instead of a game umd
-upgrade to newer firmware and use a better iso driver(SONY NP9660 or M33)
