^^Looking at it, I actually get more from Free Hostia than I get from that 1 pound per month package...
I didnt know how tripod is, never used it
Hmm this seems to be a decent comparison: http://www.hosting-review.com/top-10-lis...osts.shtml
Yeah ^^^^^^^that http://www.ixwebhosting.com/index.php/v2/pages.dspmain looks ok, 400gb webspace :)
^^Yeah, but what am I gonna do with 200GB webspace???  I'm using like 30MB ATM...
That's really good value (plus very reliable) but it's $5/month (a little too much for me) and kinda unnecessary.  5GB space will be enough.

I still think 1&1 is good enough.  Also considering GoDaddy, but for the slight extra cost (+$0.2/mo. + $2 domain), I don't seem to really get anything that I need.
if everyone donates 10 cents a month that would probably be enough. but i don't have a credit card =[
No need - 1&1 will be good enough unless I somehow need more than 100MB of SQL space.

1 & 1 giving 10GB not 5 GB

1&1 is really good. Ive had no problems with it so far. I got the beginner package for 2.99 a month. It comes with one free domain.
i paid $15/year for a domain, 512mb hosting and 2gb data/month
i think
but it was crappy service...

you should check out hostgator.com, its rated best all over the place. and it offers hell of a lot. 50gb space and 200gb data transfer, with cPanel 10 and instant service, etcetc it has EVERYTHING. us$6,95 / month which is very reasonable and affordable. it has everything, unlimited mysql, php 4 or 5, cgi, cron, curl (whch is cool), RoR, python, streaming a/v,... realtime stats...

as far as i can see its $6.95 US / month for the hosting and $15 US / year for the .com domain. so that should be a little less than $100 US for a whole year. considering how many loyal users youve gotten after just a few months i think you should really be able to get $100 US in donations in a year.. ill account for 10% of that right now.

heh and so does hostgator themselves:

Use the HostGator Coupon code "iceishot" in the order page to get $9.94 deducted from your order.

sry for the large amount of pursuasive sPa/\/\ but heres another really big review (the start):

HostGator (HostGator.com) has become one of the better known web hosts in the industry by being themselves. Though nothing they do is completely spectacular or unbelievable, they do what they should do. That is, HostGator actually answers their phones, replies to their emails, responds to live chat requests, doesn’t rip you off, and provides quality hosting. ....

At first glance, HostGator is not too impressive. They have .... basically everything an average web host has.

However, that’s the beauty of HostGator. They don’t have too many bells and whistles, marketing ploys, or anything of the sort. What you see is what you get and it’s that simple. HostGator’s terms of service is pretty standard, as is their order process. Marketing isn’t shoved down your throat at every page and billing is simple. The order process takes about 5 minutes and HostGator accepts both credit cards and PayPal (which is always nice), as well as debit cards.

paypal!!
