what's the point of disabling it ? isn't it easier just to not click it? and also if you do click it I don't think you'll get a firmware install right after. You have to agree bla bla to everything.

I've been doing it for cosmetic reasons more than anything.
For the large original themes I've been removing the umd update icon from topmenu_icon.rco to reduce the size of the topmenu, anything you can remove to resolve issues with disappearing icons is going to help (shadows, glows, icons,etc.) It's a useless icon, so why leave it in the topmenu ?
And it looks kinda crappy seeing the umd update text pop up without the icon showing when you have a umd in the drive.
