You probably use paint, don't you?
This are 32Bit images and need to be opened in The Gimp (You can download that for free) or Photoshop.
Then you will see the right image. ;)

Yeah when i extract it i open it in PS and still that image. Tried enabling the alpha channel but it gives me some wierd donkey color LoL
in photoshop go under the channel tab and youll see the actual img you extracted, the reason it looks like that is because somewhere along the line sony prolly made like that with the psp reading the rgb channel and showing you the user the 0 channel or the way around, I'm not sure if that's true or not but to me it seems like it, again just view it in diff channels in photoshop :)
The images are basically 8bit with alpha support.
@(o Y o): Try selecting the alpha channel only. (ie deselect all the other channels)
